Job summary

EG R&D is seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Design Engineer in Malaysia to create and refine mechanical parts and assemblies. You will develop 3D CAD models, generate detailed drawings and BOMs, and collaborate through the full product cycle from concept to mass production.

The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with SolidWorks or Creo, strong problem‑solving, and independent work capability, while contributing to a dynamic R&D team focused on innovative packaging and product

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in design and development of mechanical parts, including plastic, metal, rubber, artwork and packaging components.
• Experience developing POC models and delivering prototype units to customers.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modelling to create detailed parts and BOM per ANSI/GD&T standards.
• Senior position requires minimum 3 years of relevant mechanical design experience; juniors encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Create, develop, and update mechanical designs and technical drawings for parts and components.
• Verify and validate new mechanical designs, tooling, and related solutions.
• Design mechanical parts involving plastic, metal, rubber, artwork, and packaging.
• Ensure designs meet cost, quality, performance, and delivery requirements.
• Oversee tooling fabrication and modification for various materials.
• Lead mechanical design throughout the new product development process from IDEO to mass production.
• Support and improve existing designs to enhance functionality and manufacturability.
• Maintain design change records and documentation; ensure traceability.
• Collaborate with R&D and other departments; own design activities within projects.

Key responsibilities

• Create, develop, and update mechanical designs and technical drawings for mechanical parts and components.
• Verify and validate new mechanical designs, tooling, and related technical solutions.
• Design and develop mechanical parts involving plastic, metal, rubber, artwork, and packaging.
• Ensure mechanical designs and product developments meet cost, quality, performance, and delivery requirements.
• Oversee tooling fabrication, modification, and improvement for plastic, metal, and rubber parts.
• Take responsibility for mechanical design and development throughout the new product development process, from Industrial Design and Prototyping through to Mass Production.
• Support and improve existing product mechanical designs to enhance functionality, quality, and manufacturability.
• Maintain proper and accurate design change records and documentation.
• Take ownership and accountability for mechanical design activities within assigned projects, working closely with the R&D team and other relevant departments.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superior from time to time.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in the design and development of mechanical parts, including plastic, metal, rubber, artwork, and packaging components.
• Experience in developing Proof of Concept (POC) models and delivering prototype units to customers through component selection, model procurement/fabrication, and hands‑on assembly.
• Proficient in using 3D CAD modelling tools to create detailed mechanical parts and produce the required 2D technical drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM) in accordance with standard design practices, including ANSI, GD&T, and general tolerance guidelines.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and Creo.
• For Senior position: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design is preferred.
• Fresh graduates with strong technical skills and potential are encouraged to apply for the Junior position.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, while collaborating effectively with the R&D team and other departments.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills would be an added advantage.
