Job summary

Ryt Bank is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You will shape backend platform evolution, guide engineers, and ensure scalable, secure systems that power our digital banking products.

You will lead architectural discussions, set standards, and mentor teams to deliver high-performance services while collaborating with product, frontend, QA, SRE, and platform teams across domains.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience (inferred from role seniority).
• Strong proficiency in Java or other OOP languages.
• Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka and relational/non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with designing and consuming web APIs, and containerized apps (Docker, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Design scalable microservices and event-driven architectures for digital banking capabilities.
• Define and evolve backend architecture standards and best practices.

As a Lead Backend Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of architecture, engineering excellence, and team leadership. You will shape how our backend platform evolves, guide and mentor engineers in making sound technical decisions, and ensure our systems scale reliably as our products and customers grow.

This role is for someone who goes beyond writing great code. You think in systems, understanding tradeoffs, influence technical direction, and help teams move faster without compromising quality. You will work closely cross-functionally with Products and cross-domain PODs to design and deliver critical backend capabilities that power our banking platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designing scalable microservices and event-driven architectures that power digital banking capabilities.
• Defining and evolving backend architecture standards, patterns, and best practices.
• Leading technical design discussions and architectural trade-offs across domains.
• Guiding teams to build reliable, secure, and high-performance systems in production.
• Driving evolutionary design, improving existing systems while delivering new capabilities.
• Mentoring engineers, reviewing designs, and elevating technical craftsmanship across the team.
• Collaborating with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, QA, SRE, and Platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Leading initiatives to elevate engineering evolution by exploring emerging architectural patterns, new design approaches, and innovative engineering ideas.

Qualifications:

• Citizenship Requirement: Malaysians only (Got a MyKad? You're our type!).
• Strong proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming (OOP) languages.
• Strong understanding of messaging systems such as Kafka or equivalent.
• Experience with both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with designing and consuming web APIs of reasonable complexity.
• Hands-on experience with containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement.
• At least 7+ years of experience in backend software development.
• Help build the foundation of a scalable and robust backend system for our products, shaping the future of digital solutions in Malaysia.
• Contribute to the development of innovative and reliable systems that delight our users.
