Job summary

SGS invites applications for a laboratory Technician to support sample preparation, registration and testing in our Malaysia facilities. You will perform pre-treatment, label samples, and ensure data is accurately recorded in the LIMS, contributing to ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP compliance.

You will work with a small team, follow safety procedures, and be ready for occasional field sampling and after-hours duties as needed. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in chemistry or related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.
  • Willing to work in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample pre-treatment and preparation for analysis.
  • Register and label samples, and enter data into the LIMS/SLIMS or relevant records accurately.
  • Carry out basic laboratory tests as per approved methods.
  • Conduct field sampling at third party facilities when required.
  • Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP compliance in the laboratory.
  • Support laboratory goals to achieve operational excellence.

Job Description
  • Effectively and competently perform sample pre-treatment or preparation prior to the wet chemistry or instrument measurement.
  • Carry out sample registration, sample login, labeling, and ensure all sample information is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)/SLIMS or relevant laboratory records.
  • Perform basic laboratory test as per accordance with approved test methods or procedures.
  • Perform field works such as sampling, sample collection and test observation at third party facilities.
  • Effective implementation and maintenance of MS ISO/IEC 17025 as well as Group Quality System.
  • Support laboratory goals to meet operational excellence.
  • Assisting Laboratory Operations Manager or Chemist in carrying out laboratory testing, method development and compliance with QA/QC requirement.
  • Ensure Good Housekeeping and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in the laboratory.
  • Ensure the sample preparation equipment are used and maintained in proper way.
  • Adhere to group HSE safety procedures.
  • Make sure all relevant raw data or test information to be correctly and accurately recorded in the provided raw data sheet or manual log book.
  • To comply with all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) local regulation (Occupational Safety and Health Act 1996, Factory and Machinery Act 1967, Environmental Quality Act 1974).
  • To report any hazard/risk, near-miss and incident in Crystal system.
  • Ensure that all Operational Integrity Management System (OIMS) requirements are met.
  • Adherence to SGS Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policy by uphold a good safety behavior and exercising necessary standard and process when carry out your responsibilities at all times to ensure compliance to the HSE requirements.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by your reporting manager and/or Senior Management
Qualifications
  • Minimum Diploma in Chemistry, Science, or related discipline is an added advantage
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety and procedures
  • Able to perform sample preparation and follow work instructions
  • Willing to work in a laboratory environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
Additional Information
  • Good organization skills and able to prioritize on the multiple task.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge in using computer/Microsoft Office is a prerequisite.
  • Good personality, independent and a good team player.
