Job summary

Travelex Holdings (S) Pte Ltd in Malaysia is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across Asia, including China, under the guidance of senior lawyers. The role involves contract review, due diligence, regulatory compliance, and supporting internal stakeholders.

You will draft and negotiate commercial contracts, support M&A, and coordinate with internal teams and external counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Law (LL.B) and/or a legal professional qualification in an Asia country.
• Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to speak, read and write Mandarin Chinese, including drafting and reviewing Chinese-language contracts and legal documents for China-related matters.
• At least 2 years' PQE or relevant legal experience, preferably in a corporate, commercial or in-house environment.
• Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, legal documentation and business-facing legal advice.
• Exposure to retail property leasing and HR experience would be advantageous.
• Ability to take ownership of assigned legal matters, identify key legal and commercial risks, and provide practical, well-reasoned recommendations with appropriate supervision.
• Good drafting, contract review, legal research and communication skills, with the ability to provide practical legal advice and support to business stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, willingness to learn and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to work independently where appropriate, while escalating material issues and collaborating effectively with the wider Legal team.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-cultural teams across multiple regions.
• As Travelex is a provider of financial services, the successful candidate will be required to satisfy Travelex’s employee due-diligence criteria.

Responsibilities

• draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documents for the Asia Region, including contracts and legal documents in Chinese for China-related matters.
• support M&A and other transactional work, including legal due diligence, document review and coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel, as required.
• work with and support the Regional Compliance and Regulatory team on regulatory compliance and licensing matters, Group policies and procedures, and legal requirements relating to financial services, privacy, trade practices, corporations and companies law, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing.
• provide general legal support to business stakeholders, including the Compliance, HR, Marketing and Operations teams, under the guidance of senior members of the Legal team.
• prepare contract summaries, legal analyses and reports for Group on key legal and commercial matters relating to the Asia business.
• support legal administration, contract repository management, reporting and other legal matters assigned from time to time.
• assist with disputes, complaints, litigation and pre-litigation matters, including liaising with external counsel and relevant stakeholders.
• build close working relationships with other Travelex legal counsel.
