Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Network Engineer to join our team in Penang. This role is responsible for the end-to-end design and implementation of the core transmission network for a major, mission-critical infrastructure project. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the successful candidate will act as the primary on-site technical authority, focusing on architecting high-availability infrastructure and deploying robust cybersecurity measures ahead of the system's operational launch.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the lead on-site network expert, operating independently to drive project deliverables.
• Design, install, and configure the core, distribution, and access network infrastructure to support data, voice, and video transmission across a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Architect and configure large-core count optical fibre networks and optical distribution frames across multiple physical sites.
• Implement advanced IP routing and switching protocols to establish a highly resilient, fault-tolerant network architecture.
• Design and establish network segmentation and isolation using VLANs, programming strict Quality of Service (QoS) and Class of Service (CoS) for mission-critical applications.
• Design and deploy comprehensive network security systems, including stateful firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems, and secure VPN gateways.
• Configure granular Access Control Lists (ACLs) and establish Authentication, Authorisation, and Accounting (AAA) systems.
• Deploy and calibrate centralised network management systems to establish baseline performance for stringent high-availability targets.
• Prepare and submit technical design documentation, interface control documents, and Testing & Commissioning reports for the project.
• Lead technical troubleshooting during the installation and integration phases, coordinating with turnkey contractors and other subsystem providers for seamless delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience as a Network Engineer focusing on the design and rollout of large-scale infrastructure, telecommunications, or mission-critical enterprise environments.
• Expertise in enterprise routing/switching architectures, Gigabit Ethernet, and Layer 2/3 wire-speed switching.
• Strong knowledge of industry-standard cybersecurity frameworks and experience hardening network equipment and perimeters.
• Highly resourceful with excellent problem-solving aptitude, capable of managing complex technical deployments independently.
• Excellent communication skills and interfacing experience with external parties.
