Job description

Responsibilities

• Oversee adherence of infection control measures to Vision, Mission, goals, objectives, and values, aligning with the scope of the PCI Service.
• Manage all scheduled and ad-hoc meetings in compliance with the PCI standard requirements as the liaison to the PCI Chairman.
• Participate in planning, budgeting, and resource utilization of the services.
• Identify gaps in clinical practice and evaluate nursing interventions to enhance value in patient care and professional practice.
• Collaborate with the head of service to plan and implement infection control programs for clinical excellence.
• Collaborate with hospital staff to audit evidence‑based infection control policies and SOPs, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency.
• Manage investigations and root cause analyses for incidents, take appropriate action, and ensure completion of incident reports within stipulated time.
• Monitor, maintain, and analyze infection control statistics and records.
• Establish and maintain evidence‑based care standards, prioritize patient safety, and streamline workflows.
• Collaborate with other hospital committees to recommend and evaluate procedures or policy statements related to infection control within KPJ Hospital.
• Produce instructional materials on infection control suitable for different audience levels.
• Educate, guide, and supervise hospital staff on infection control measures, according to objectives.
• Provide updated guidelines related to Prevention of Infection Control to the PIC.
• Manage continuous education during orientation; structure education programs and supervise to ensure understanding of roles in preventing infections.
• Provide updates, demonstrate knowledge and skills through continuous education, seminars, internal and external.
• Organize educational events, workshops, roadshows, and awareness campaigns within the hospital.
• Provide educational programs for nurses, link nurses, and other staff.
• Monitor, guide, and supervise link nurses for accurate data collection and adherence to prevention practices.
• Produce, enforce, revise, and evaluate PCI guidelines and policies regularly.
• Monitor compliance of staff with infection control policies, including audit activities.
• Plan and organize regular environmental inspections.
• Participate in procurement and building committee meetings to advise on infection control requirements.
• Identify and monitor equipment that meets infection control standards.
• Elaborate and update isolation techniques and procedures.
• Provide adequate space and equipment utilization for patient and staff management.
• Enforce compliance of medical devices with manufacturer instructions and PCI.
• Enforce no reuse of disposables on surgical instruments or equipment.
• Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements for isolation facilities.
• Collaborate with unit manager and service head to collect and evaluate data, and participate in hospital surveys (MSQH, JCI, IMS).
• Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Act and 1994 regulations.
• Provide availability of systematic safety and quality improvement activities; organize them per infection control criteria.
• Produce indicator reports with tracking and trending.
• Enforce appropriate action on emerging and reemerging diseases and report to relevant authority.
• Evaluate environmental health per infection control standards.
• Participate in sharp injury investigation and prevention activities.
• Manage incidence data for selected device use in ICU.
• Investigate hospital infection outbreaks with microbiology lab and others; report findings to authorities.
• Plan, organize, and maintain a comprehensive audit schedule; ensure timely audits covering all necessary areas.
• Perform audits according to predetermined criteria; identify non‑compliance and suggest corrective actions.
• Participate in clinical programs, analyze audit results, and provide feedback to departments and nursing management.

Education and Licensure

• Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Post Basic qualification in Infection Control (preferred).
• Bachelor of Nursing (preferred).

Knowledge and Experience

• Registered Nurse with at least five years of clinical experience and diverse teaching experience.

• Completion of courses related to core elements of Infection Control, clinical microbiology, and Infectious Diseases.
