Job summary

Smiths Detection in Malaysia invites motivated engineering students for an industrial engineering internship. You will gain hands-on experience supporting Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, or Operations Excellence through time studies, data collection, and productivity analysis.

You will develop problem-solving, analytical, reporting, and stakeholder management skills while contributing to Lean and continuous improvement initiatives in a real manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Majors can include Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics or related fields.
• Basic understanding of Industrial Engineering concepts such as Work Measurement and Process Improvement.
• Strong analytical and observational skills are required.
• Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct time studies and work measurements on selected production and support processes.
• Observe, document, and map process flows and standard work methods.
• Collect, compile, and analyze operational and productivity data.
• Support engineers and teams in identifying opportunities for process improvement.
• Assist in evaluating cycle time, labor utilization, and resource efficiency.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement projects.
• Support Operations Excellence initiatives, including process optimization and waste reduction.
• Develop reports, dashboards, presentations, and summaries to communicate findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and operators to gather accurate data.
• Support project implementation and monitor improvement outcomes where applicable.
