Job summary

AECOM seeks an experienced HV Substation Engineer to lead major grid projects from feasibility to detailed design, interfacing with clients and cross‑functional teams. You will guide technical delivery for substations 132 kV–400 kV, and ensure safety, quality and schedule adherence.

The role requires a Master of Engineering and Chartered Engineer/PE licensure, with extensive HV experience, AIS/GIS knowledge, and familiarity with National Grid standards. Mentoring junior staff is expected.

Qualifications

• Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• CDAE / LCDAE approval preferred.
• Experience with consultancy, contractor, or utility in energy sector.
• HV infrastructure design at concept, FEED and detailed stages.
• Knowledge of electrical AC HV Plant and AIS/GIS.
• Familiarity with National Grid standards.
• Proposal/bid development and leading multi-discipline bids.
• Design & site construction review experience; primary plant focus.
• Experience with control systems, transformers, HVDC, interconnectors, HV protection & control.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation technical discussions with client and internal teams.
• Lead technical delivery with engineering teams; monitor progress and quality.
• Apply HV plant life-cycle knowledge to deliver projects.
• Collaborate with project management for resourcing and programmes.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness; manage costs and identify opportunities.
• Build client relationships and maintain a client‑oriented delivery mindset.
• Drive safety in design across projects.
• Mentor and develop junior staff to grow team capability.
