Job summary

Gentari is seeking an HSE Engineer to support the Health, Safety and Environment Management System across EV charging infrastructure projects and operations. You will promote compliance with Gentari standards, manage risk controls and support continuous improvement.

The role involves HIRARC/HAZID/JSA facilitation, audits, and contractor HSE management with a proactive, hands-on approach. Travel to sites is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3-5 years of HSE experience in EV charging, renewables, construction, or O&M environments.
• Experience in site inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and HSE assurance.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation and continual improvement of Gentari GMOB HSE Management System.
• Develop, review and update HSE procedures, standards and work instructions.

The HSE Engineer is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, assurance and continual improvement of Gentari Green Mobility's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System across electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects, operations, maintenance activities and contractor-managed works.

The position provides technical HSE support to promote compliance with applicable legal requirements, Gentari HSE standards, risk management requirements, contractor HSE management processes and operational excellence objectives.

Responsibilities

HSE Management System & Governance

• Support implementation and continual improvement of the GMOB HSE Management System.
• Develop, review and update HSE procedures, standards, guidelines and work instructions.
• Coordinate HSE programmes, action plans and management system initiatives.
• Maintain HSE documentation, records and compliance registers.
• Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 requirements.
• Facilitate HIRARC, HAZID, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and task risk assessments.
• Identify operational and project-related HSE risks and recommend appropriate controls.
• Review the effectiveness of risk controls and support Critical Risk Management implementation.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) reviews and approvals.
• Monitor and follow up on the implementation of risk controls and corrective actions within the assigned scope.

Operational & Project HSE Support

• Provide HSE support for EV charging infrastructure installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities.
• Conduct site inspections and workplace assessments.
• Participate in project HSE reviews and contractor engagements.
• Monitor implementation of Permit to Work (PTW), safe systems of work and electrical safety requirements.
• Verify compliance with Gentari HSE standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority where imminent danger or unsafe conditions are identified.

Contractor HSE Management

• Review contractor HSE documentation, plans and risk assessments.
• Conduct contractor HSE onboarding and engagement sessions.
• Perform contractor audits and compliance assessments.
• Monitor contractor HSE performance and closure of corrective actions.
• Support HSE evaluation during tender and procurement activities.
• Recommend suspension of work activities where serious contractor HSE violations are identified.

HSE Assurance & Compliance

• Plan and execute HSE inspections, audits and assurance activities.
• Monitor statutory compliance obligations and regulatory requirements.
• Track corrective actions arising from audits, incidents and inspections.
• Verify the effectiveness of implemented controls and corrective actions.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Escalate significant HSE risks, incidents and non-compliance matters to the Head, HSE (Green Mobility) and relevant management.
• Coordinate reporting and investigation of incidents, near misses, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
• Facilitate root-cause analysis and dissemination of lessons learned.
• Monitor implementation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
• Support emergency preparedness programmes, drills and response exercises.

HSE Capability & Culture

• Coordinate HSE training and competency initiatives.
• Support HSE campaigns, awareness programmes and engagement activities.
• Promote a positive HSE culture and continuous improvement.
• Monitor HSE competency requirements and training compliance.

HSE Performance Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual HSE reports.
• Track HSE KPIs and performance metrics.
• Analyse trends and identify areas for improvement.
• Support HSE Management Review and Leadership Team reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of HSE experience, preferably within EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, construction, electrical installations, contractor management, or operations and maintenance environments.
• Proven experience in conducting site inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and HSE assurance activities.
• Knowledge of HSE management systems, Malaysian HSE legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Proficient in risk assessment methodologies, including HIRARC, HAZID and Job Safety Analysis (JSA), as well as incident investigation and root cause analysis.
• Experience in contractor HSE management, compliance monitoring, emergency preparedness, and implementation of safe systems of work.
• Professional certifications such as Green Book (SHO), NEBOSH IGC, ISO 45001/14001 Internal Auditor, Incident Investigation Certification, or equivalent HSE certifications are an advantage.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to travel to project and operational sites as required.
