Job summary

MetLife in Asia seeks a Head of Engineering to lead the platform strategy, modernization, and reliability across core applications and integration platforms. You will collaborate with business leaders, EA, security, and global teams to drive delivery excellence and platform modernization, leveraging AI to elevate capabilities and currency.

The role balances long-term vision with day-to-day operational accountability for mission-critical platforms, including ESB and cloud-native environments,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent.
• Deep expertise in Java and SQL/NoSQL with large-scale enterprise apps.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools to improve reliability and quality.
• Hands-on cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization.
• Experience with ESB and middleware technologies, including Oracle API Gateway.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own the long-term platform strategy, including roadmap planning, architecture evolution, modernization initiatives, and technology refresh cycles.
• Ensure platform operations comply with regulatory and risk frameworks.
• Establish and monitor reliability targets (SLOs/SLIs) and drive improvements in MTTR and resilience.
• Lead, coach, and empower team members to deliver high-quality platform initiatives.
• Drive reliability engineering practices, scalability, self-healing, and availability patterns.
• Own the platform budget, manage vendor partnerships, SLAs and strategic suppliers.
