The Head of Nursing is a critical management position in nursing services. It is the Head of Nursing who sets the standards and directions for nursing practice in a nursing department and manages the staff delivering the care. These responsibilities cover the key aspects of managing nursing division, including staff supervision, patient care coordination, policy development, and compliance oversight.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Nursing to join our team. This position will oversee and coordinate all the nursing activities in a hospital, ensuring a high standard of customer care and managing the daily nursing personnel operations of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising and coordinating nursing activities
- Managing Nurse Managers and nursing department activities including customer care management
- Evaluating and assessing nursing quality and patient care plans
- Developing and implementing quality assurance procedures
- Collaborating staff administration and management
- Manage and supervise nursing and support staff
- Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with medical professionals
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operation of the facility
- Provide training and support to staff to maintain high standards of care
Requirements
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Expertise in developing and implementing nursing protocols and standards of practice
- Experience with healthcare accreditation process and compliance with regulatory standards
- Strong communication skills for patient advocacy, staff mentorship, and interaction with a diverse population
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Licensure and Certification
- Registered Nurse (RN) License: Must hold a current and valid RN license
- Advanced Certifications: Post Basic in any specialized area
- Certifications in nursing leadership or administration can be beneficial
Experience
- Clinical Experience: Several years of experience as a registered nurse, including experience in various clinical settings
- Leadership Experience: Significant experience in nursing management or administration, often including roles such as nurse manager, supervisor, or assistant director of nursing
- Leadership and Management Skills: Strong ability to lead and manage nursing staff, including conflict resolution, team building, and mentorship
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals
- Strategic Planning and Decision-Making: Ability to develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
- Financial Acumen: Understanding of budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation within a healthcare
