Private Advertiser is establishing a new R&D lab in Johor Bahru for Power & IoT products. The Head of Hardware R&D will lead hardware design, firmware, and a small team in a hands-on environment, overseeing pilot production and certification.

The role requires 8+ years in embedded development, board-level product experience, and the ability to work across hardware and software with English fluency. Based in JB, or relocation/work hybrid from Penang/KL.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in Electronic, Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• 8+ years in embedded product development with hands-on leadership.
• Board-level product experience from prototype to volume production.
• Hands-on weekly with scope, logic analyser and soldering iron.
• Experience leading a small engineering team and conducting design reviews.
• Based in Johor Bahru or willing to relocate/work hybrid from Penang/KL.

Aufgaben

Head of Hardware R&D - Power & IoT Products

We are an established engineering technology company building power-quality and IoT hardware products. We are opening a new R&D lab in Johor Bahru and are looking for the person who will lead it.

The role

You will lead hardware R&D from a new lab and build a small team around you. This is hands-on: schematics, board bring-up, firmware with the team, BOMs, pilot runs with a contract manufacturer, and certification. You will own how our measurement, edge and IoT products are designed, tested and shipped. You report to a senior business leader who owns the product direction, and you work with a software and test team every day.

What you will do

• Take a current measurement product from prototype to pilot production, and lead the design of the next generation.
• Design and review schematics, PCB layouts and BOMs. Bring up and debug new boards at the bench.
• Write, review and release embedded firmware with the team (C/C++, STM32 or Zynq / embedded Linux). Own source control and releases.
• Run new-product introduction with contract manufacturers: DFM, pilot runs, test fixtures, yield and cost.
• Plan and pass product certification: accuracy, EMC and safety.
• Set up and run the lab, design reviews and a simple release process. Hire and coach a firmware engineer and a test engineer.
• Turn field faults into design fixes and drive cost-down on existing hardware.
• Make sure the company owns every source file, key and design.

What we are looking for

• Degree in Electronic, Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• 8+ years in embedded product development. Senior hardware design OR senior embedded firmware background, and fluent on the other side.
• At least one board-level product taken from prototype to volume production with a contract manufacturer.
• Hands-on every week. Comfortable with a scope, logic analyser and soldering iron.
• Has run design reviews or led a small engineering team. Clear spoken and written English.
• Based in Johor Bahru, or willing to relocate or work hybrid from Penang / KL.

Good to have

• Power quality or energy metering: IEC 61000-4-30 / 4-7 / 4-15, precision ADC front-ends, DSP.
• Industrial interfaces: RS485 / Modbus, Ethernet, 4G / LTE.
• EMC, safety or accuracy certification experience.
