An established business group is seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead the establishment and growth of their heavy-equipment and commercial-vehicle business in Malaysia. This is a build-and-lead mandate: you will shape the market strategy, establish the local business platform and team, and take ownership of overall performance—from commercial growth to aftersales delivery.
Key responsibilities
Develop the Malaysia strategy, business plan, annual budget and investment priorities, translating them into clear commercial and operational targets
Take full ownership of the P&L, including revenue, margins, working capital, cash flow, cost control and management reporting
Build the commercial and operational platform required to support sustainable business growth in Malaysia
Drive profitable sales growth across relevant customer segments through direct sales, key accounts, channel partnerships and disciplined pipeline management
Develop a strong lifecycle proposition covering equipment sales, spare parts, servicing, warranties, technical support and customer uptime
Manage relationships with OEM principals and align on market plans, forecasts, product positioning, standards, training and performance commitments
Recruit, organise and develop a high-performing Malaysia team with clear responsibilities, effective operating processes and succession planning
Strengthen the company's brand presence and senior-level relationships with customers, industry partners, regulators and other key stakeholders
Ensure robust corporate governance, internal controls, statutory compliance, workplace health and safety, and adherence to Group and OEM principal requirements
Provide the Board with timely and meaningful insights into business performance, market developments, risks and growth opportunities
About you
At least 12–15 years of progressive experience in heavy equipment, cranes, commercial vehicles, industrial machinery or a closely related industry
Substantial general management or business-unit leadership experience, with direct P&L responsibility and a proven record of delivering profitable growth
Strong knowledge of the Malaysian market, customer landscape and commercial practices; relevant regional exposure would be advantageous
Demonstrated ability to establish or transform an equipment or commercial-vehicle business, including sales, channel development and aftersales operations
Proven credibility in managing OEM or principal relationships while balancing growth commitments with operational and governance requirements
A well-established network within Malaysia's heavy-equipment, crane, commercial-vehicle or industrial sectors, with the ability to develop trusted senior-level relationships
Strong commercial judgement, financial acumen and a data-driven approach to forecasting, working-capital management and investment decisions
A hands-on and entrepreneurial leadership style, combined with the maturity to work effectively with a Board and across a regional group
Excellent stakeholder-management, negotiation and communication skills
