Job summary

AFY Autism and Special Needs in Cyberjaya, Selangor, is seeking a compassionate Special Needs Teacher to join as a full-time member of our education team. You will develop and deliver individualised learning programmes tailored to each child, enabling them to reach their potential in an inclusive setting.

You will work with parents and professionals, use diverse teaching strategies and assistive technologies, monitor progress, and adapt materials to meet diverse needs.

Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification or diploma in Special Education or an equivalent teaching credential.
• Proven experience working with children with special needs, learning disabilities or developmental delays.
• Knowledge of evidence-based teaching strategies and inclusive education practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with families, colleagues and external professionals.
• Patience, empathy and passion for supporting children with diverse learning needs.
• Proficiency in English with strong written and verbal abilities.
• Organisational skills to manage multiple students with varying needs.
• Knowledge of curriculum adaptation and differentiation techniques.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning resources is advantageous.
• Commitment to an inclusive, supportive learning environment; safeguarding or first aid certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing customised lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.
• Delivering engaging lessons using diverse teaching strategies and assistive technologies.
• Assessing progress and maintaining records of academic development and behaviour.
• Collaborating with parents, guardians and other professionals to ensure coordinated support.
• Providing one-on-one and small group instruction to reinforce learning objectives.
• Creating a safe, inclusive classroom and promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing.
• Adapting curriculum materials to accommodate diverse learning needs and accessibility.
• Mentoring teaching assistants and support staff in the classroom.
• Communicating progress and achievements to families through reports and meetings.
• Participating in professional development and staying current with best practices in special needs education.
