Job summary

WJ Digital is seeking a skilled Full Stack Developer to join the WayJet team in Kuala Lumpur. You will work on backend services using Go and frontend interfaces with TypeScript and React, building features across the stack and integrating multiple AI model providers.

You will be responsible for API design, authentication, usage tracking, and billing, while ensuring reliability, performance and a seamless developer experience through the unified WayJet API gateway.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional full-stack development experience.

About WayJet

WayJet is our multi-model AI API gateway built for developers and businesses.

Instead of integrating and managing different AI providers separately, developers can connect to WayJet through a single API and access leading AI models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others.

The platform provides a unified layer for model access, API management, usage tracking, billing, routing and service reliability.

As the platform grows, we are continuously integrating new models and providers, improving routing and failover, enhancing billing accuracy, and developing the developer dashboard and management tools.

WayJet currently provides an OpenAI-compatible gateway, supports multiple providers through a unified API, and includes capabilities such as streaming, API keys, usage tracking and budget controls.

About the Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our engineering team and work primarily on the development and maintenance of WayJet.

This is a full-stack role with a stronger focus on backend development.

You will work across backend services, APIs, databases and frontend applications. Your work will include integrating AI model providers, improving API reliability and performance, maintaining usage and billing systems, and developing the web dashboard used by developers and customers.

You will participate in the complete development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment and production support.

Key Responsibilities

Full Stack Development

• Develop and maintain both backend and frontend components of WayJet.
• Build complete product features from database and backend services through APIs and user-facing interfaces.
• Develop new platform functionality and continuously improve existing systems.
• Write clean, maintainable and reusable code.
• Participate in testing, deployment and production support.
• Develop and maintain backend services primarily using Go (Golang).
• Design and maintain reliable REST APIs and platform services.
• Develop authentication, API key management, permissions, usage tracking and other core platform functions.
• Improve backend performance, scalability and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
• Integrate APIs from major AI model providers.
• Maintain a unified interface across different models and providers.
• Handle differences in API formats, authentication, rate limits, timeouts and error responses.
• Support OpenAI-compatible APIs and other provider-specific interfaces.
• Improve the process for adding new models and providers.
• Maintain reliable communication between WayJet and upstream AI services.
• WayJet's public API currently exposes an OpenAI-compatible endpoint and also supports multiple providers behind a single API.

Routing & Reliability

• Develop and improve routing between different AI providers and models.
• Implement retry, fallback and failover mechanisms.
• Monitor provider availability, latency and error rates.
• Ensure service failures from individual providers have minimal impact on users.
• Improve overall platform availability and response performance.
• Automatic failover and multi-provider routing are part of WayJet's intended infrastructure layer, rather than merely optional integrations.
• Develop and maintain API usage tracking and billing-related services.
• Accurately record model usage, token consumption, provider pricing and customer usage.
• Support different models and pricing structures.
• Maintain transaction and usage records.
• Ensure billing data is accurate, consistent and traceable.
• WayJet currently uses a unified prepaid balance and meters usage across providers, so this is a core product function rather than a peripheral finance feature.

Streaming & API Performance

• Support streaming AI responses using technologies such as SSE.
• Handle long-running API connections, timeouts and cancellations correctly.
• Identify and improve API performance bottlenecks.
• Implement appropriate logging, monitoring and error handling.
• WayJet's public API already supports token-by-token SSE streaming for chat completions.

Frontend Development

• Develop and maintain the WayJet web application using TypeScript and React.
• Build customer dashboards, developer tools and platform management interfaces.
• Develop pages for API keys, model management, usage, billing and account settings.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs.
• Work with product and design team members to improve usability.

Database & Infrastructure

• Design and maintain application database structures.
• Work with PostgreSQL, Redis or similar technologies.
• Write and optimise database queries.
• Maintain data consistency and system performance.
• Support deployment, monitoring and production operations.
• Work closely with engineers, product and business team members.
• Participate in technical discussions, system design and code reviews.
• Translate product requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Maintain relevant technical documentation.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve development speed and quality.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of professional software development experience, including practical full-stack development experience.
• Strong backend development skills, preferably using Go (Golang).
• Practical frontend development experience with TypeScript and React.
• Good experience developing REST APIs and backend services.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs.
• Good understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with Redis or similar caching technologies.
• Good understanding of authentication, error handling, timeout and retry mechanisms.
• Familiar with Git and modern software development practices.
• Able to independently troubleshoot software and production issues.
• Comfortable working across frontend and backend depending on project needs.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.
