Reimagine access. Reimagine ownership. Build the future with Cinch.
Cinch is Southeast Asia’s leading circular tech subscription company, redefining how people and businesses access technology. Instead of adding to the growing e-waste crisis, we enable affordable, sustainable access to devices through subscriptions that maximize reuse and extend their lifecycle. We operate across B2C, B2B, and B2B2C channels, including major partnerships with global leaders like Samsung. Our model sits at the intersection of powerful mega trends — sustainability, embedded finance, and the shift from ownership to access — creating a massive opportunity to reshape the future of tech consumption. At Cinch, we are builders with high standards, a bias for action, and a shared mission to create a generational company that outlasts us. Freshly funded by leading institutional investors and growing rapidly, we’re creating an environment where ambitious people can do the best work of their careers — and where the work has real, lasting impact.
We are looking for a Financial Controller based in Kuala Lumpur to own the finance function for our Malaysian entities and to be the on-the-ground finance lead in-market. This is a hands‑on role: you will own the Malaysian books end to end, run local statutory and tax compliance, and work directly with the Group finance team across the region on consolidation, controls and reporting.
The role suits someone who is comfortable operating without a large team behind them, who is technically strong on Malaysian statutory and tax matters, and who wants to build processes rather than inherit finished ones.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting operations and close
- Own all accounting operations for the Group entities: billing, AR, AP, GL, capex and fixed assets, inventory, cost accounting and revenue recognition
- Deliver an accurate and timely month‑end close to the Group close calendar, and support Group consolidation across Singapore and Malaysia
- Own the year‑end audit for the Malaysian entities, working with external auditors, company secretaries and tax agents
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including depreciation, impairment and disposal treatment for a leasing and subscription asset base
Statutory and tax compliance (Malaysia)
- Own all SSM filings and corporate secretarial coordination for the Malaysian entities
- Own LHDN corporate tax compliance, including CP204 estimates and revisions, Form C, and withholding tax on cross‑border payments
- Manage SST registration and returns where applicable
Ensure payroll statutory compliance
- Maintain LHDN e-Invoice (MyInvois) compliance for in‑scope transactions
- Maintain transfer pricing documentations and support the arm's‑length basis for intercompany arrangements between the entities
Controls, treasury and reporting
- Implement and maintain financial controls and process documentation that scale with the business
- Manage Malaysian bank relationships, payment approval workflow and local cash positioning, and feed the Group cash forecast
- Support Group management and investor reporting with accurate data and variance commentary
- Support financing and lender reporting obligations relating to the Malaysian entities
Improvement
- Identify and drive process and systems improvement across the Group finance stack, including finance automation and integration between operational systems and the ledger
- Act as the finance counterpart to in‑market commercial, operations and logistics teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field; CA(M)/MIA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA qualification preferred
- 6–10 years of relevant experience, ideally combining professional firm training with an in‑house controller role
- Strong, current, hands‑on knowledge of Malaysian statutory reporting, MFRS/MPERS, LHDN corporate tax and SST
- Experience in a start‑up or scale‑up, where the Controller does the work as well as reviews it
- Experience with a regional or multi‑entity group, and comfort working with a reporting line in another country, is a strong advantage
- Working knowledge of Xero or a comparable cloud ledger; strong Excel or Google Sheets
- Fluent written and spoken English; Bahasa Malaysia required for dealings with local authorities and vendors
- Prior exposure to leasing, subscription, consumer finance or asset‑heavy business models is an advantage
- Proactive, precise, and comfortable escalating problems early
What We Offer
- A genuinely broad Controller mandate: full ownership of a market
- Direct exposure to Group finance, lenders and investors, and to regional expansion work
- Opportunities for professional growth in a fast‑growing fintech and e‑commerce business
- Continuous learning, including access to industry training and resources
- A supportive, collaborative culture that values innovation and personal development
- The chance to contribute to a mission‑driven company focused on reducing waste
