Role Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to lead the finance and accounting function for our Malaysia operations. The role will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, month-end closing, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash-flow management, tax and statutory compliance, payroll coordination, internal controls, and financial business partnering.
The successful candidate should be comfortable doing the work as well as managing the finance function, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliation and month-end closing.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Review P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing.
- Prepare financial analysis and variance explanations for management.
- Coordinate annual audit and work with external auditors.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget.
- Analyze revenue, gross margin, operating expenses and profitability.
- Provide management with recommendations on cost control and business performance.
Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Manage daily cash-flow requirements and cash forecasting.
- Monitor accounts receivable and collection performance.
- Manage accounts payable and payment schedules.
- Identify opportunities to improve working capital and cash conversion.
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian accounting and tax requirements.
- Coordinate corporate tax, SST and other applicable tax matters.
- Work with external tax advisers and accountants where required.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory filings and payments.
Internal Controls
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and approval processes.
- Review expenses, payments and financial transactions.
- Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with company finance policies.
Payroll & HR Finance
- Coordinate monthly payroll accounting and statutory payments with HR/payroll.
- Review payroll-related accounting and reconciliations.
- Monitor employee expenses, claims and benefits.
Business Partnering
- Work closely with the Country Manager and other department heads.
- Provide financial insights to support business decisions.
- Review profitability by product/channel/business unit where applicable.
- Support pricing, cost-saving initiatives and new business cases.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis when required.
Team Management
- Manage and develop the local finance team.
- Review and improve finance processes and workflows.
- Ensure clear segregation of duties and accountability.
- Drive automation and process improvements where possible.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
- ACCA/CPA/CIMA/MIA qualification is preferred.
- 4-5 years of relevant finance/accounting experience, preferably with experience as a Finance Manager.
- Experience in a medium-sized company or fast-growing business preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian accounting, tax and statutory requirements.
- Strong experience with month-end closing, management reporting, budgeting and cash-flow management.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good English communication skills; Mandarin is an advantage.
- Able to work independently with limited supervision.
