Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated is seeking a Data Center Facility Manager in Johor Bahru, Malaysia to oversee day-to-day data center operations, including power distribution, cooling, and environmental controls. You will lead a technical team, coordinate maintenance, and ensure uptime and safety standards.
The role requires 5–7 years in data center/facility management, supervisory experience, and strong knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC, BMS, and DCIM platforms.
The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and performance of critical data center infrastructure. This role ensures maximum uptime, operational efficiency, and compliance with industry standards while managing facility systems, vendor relationships, and on-site teams.
Oversee all aspects of data center facility operations including power distribution, cooling systems, fire suppression, security systems, and building management systems. Monitor facility performance metrics and maintain 99.99%+ uptime standards. Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize service disruptions.
Manage electrical systems including UPS, generators, PDUs, and power distribution infrastructure. Oversee HVAC systems, precision cooling units, and environmental controls. Ensure proper functioning of fire detection and suppression systems, water detection systems, and access control systems.
Lead and develop facility operations team including technicians, engineers, and support staff. Establish work schedules, assign responsibilities, and conduct performance evaluations. Provide training on safety procedures, equipment operation, and emergency response protocols.
Manage relationships with equipment vendors, service providers, and contractors. Oversee maintenance contracts and service level agreements. Coordinate with third-party technicians for specialized repairs and system upgrades.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including electrical codes, fire safety standards, and environmental regulations. Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, incident reports, and system configurations. Conduct regular audits of safety procedures and operational protocols.
Develop and manage facility operations budget including maintenance costs, utilities, and capital expenditures. Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality. Track expenses and provide regular financial reporting to senior management.
Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Lead response efforts during facility emergencies or service disruptions. Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure team readiness for critical situations.
Datacenter engineers must initiate, document, and track all infrastructure changes through the formal change management process. This includes hardware installations, network modifications, configuration updates, and system upgrades. Each change requires comprehensive documentation detailing the scope, impact assessment, implementation plan, rollback procedures, and testing validation.
Engineers are expected to participate in CAB meetings, presenting technical details of proposed changes and addressing questions from stakeholders. They must provide risk assessments and demonstrate alignment with business objectives and maintenance windows.
Execute approved changes according to scheduled maintenance windows, following documented procedures precisely. Maintain detailed implementation logs, capture before-and-after configurations, and update asset management systems and configuration management databases (CMDB) to reflect current state.
Complete post-change validation testing to confirm successful implementation and document outcomes. Report any deviations from expected results and ensure proper closure of change tickets with lessons learned documentation.
Respond promptly to datacenter incidents including hardware failures, environmental alerts, power disruptions, cooling system issues, and network outages. Acknowledge incidents within defined SLA timeframes and begin initial triage immediately.
Assess incident severity based on business impact and urgency. Properly categorize incidents (hardware, network, environmental, security) and escalate critical issues according to established escalation matrices. Priority 1 incidents require immediate attention regardless of time of day.
Conduct thorough investigation to identify root causes rather than addressing symptoms only. Document findings, contributing factors, and failure patterns to prevent recurrence. Collaborate with vendors and internal teams as needed for complex issues.
Maintain regular communication with stakeholders during incident resolution. Provide status updates at defined intervals, manage expectations regarding resolution timeframes, and ensure proper notification when incidents are resolved. Complete detailed incident reports documenting timeline, actions taken, root cause, and preventive measures.
Contribute to the knowledge base by documenting incident resolutions, creating troubleshooting guides, and sharing lessons learned. This builds organizational capability and reduces resolution time for future similar incidents.
