Job summary

Intel Malaysia, Penang, is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to ensure availability and reliability of HVAC, exhaust, process vacuum, and other mechanical systems critical to manufacturing and R&D. You will lead system design reviews, drive maintenance programs, and mentor teams while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external providers.

The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+–5+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor facilities and an on-site

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years hands-on experience in facilities mechanical systems, or Master's with 3+ years.
  • Proficiency in mechanical system design, operations, engineering and management.
  • Knowledge of fire life safety systems.
  • Knowledge in preventive / corrective maintenance practices.
  • Experience in systems design, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring teams to drive operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with facility maintenance processes and mechanical systems management.
  • Exceptional communication skills to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and management.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and advancing sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in Semiconductor Fab or Advanced Semiconductor manufacturing environment with emphasis on Mechanical facilities system operation and reliability improvement, load, capacity modelling, Design and specification for progressive built, tool install, upgrade for large manufacturing facilities and Test and commissioning Mechanical equipment.
  • Certified Fire Safety Manager (FSM) / Fire Safety Officer (FSO) by local authority (Bomba) is an added advantage.
  • PE or Ir Registration or competence certification is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Own, sustain, and improve system reliability, capability, capacity, operational troubleshooting, system upgrade evaluation and optimization of mechanical systems.
  • Develop engineering scopes of work for mechanical projects and conduct design reviews and evaluations.
  • Partner with internal customers and external service providers to ensure systems are maintained and operated within specified limits.
  • Support environmental compliance for facilities mechanical systems, ensuring adherence to safety and reliability standards.
  • Compliance to EHS / regulatory / insurance audit requirements (Fire protection / Life safety system)
  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new or modified designs to improve system performance.
  • Collaborate on the development of mechanical systems roadmaps and asset replacement strategies to ensure reliability, redundancy, and capacity for facility growth.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to support teams involved in day-to-day operations.
  • Modeling and track changes, Troubleshooting problems, Systematic problem solving, providing Mechanical load and capacity data, Delivering operational efficiency, maintenance, testing and commissioning solutions, driving capital budgets for system upgrades, providing technical leadership to Integrated Facilities Management and contractors, member of the Emergency Operations Center, responding to power outages or disturbances and leading in the recovery effort, participating on cross site teams, RDCOC, Mechanical Joint Engineer Team, site audit, etc.
  • Some travel and occasional weekend engineering support will also be required.

The Role and Impact As a Facilities Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, reliability, and maintenance of mechanical systems (Oil Free Air, HVAC, Exhaust, Process Vacuum, PCW, Wet system, Fire Life Safety System and etc) essential to Intel's manufacturing, clean room, and research and development activities. You'll focus on designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical systems to support daily operations, system reliability, safety and environmental objectives. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining optimal operational performance across Intel's facilities.
