Job summary

MSIG Malaysia is seeking a capable Fire & Miscellaneous Underwriter to assess underwriting for new and renewal business, including policy wording reviews, risk surveys, and recommendations to improve risk quality.

You will provide professional advice to Business Units and Branch personnel, work with Risk Survey and Claims teams to analyze trends, review guidelines, and help develop profitable products while ensuring full compliance with policies, governance, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree holder or possess relevant insurance qualifications.
• AMII qualification is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assess underwriting for Fire & Miscellaneous insurance, including policy wording reviews, risk survey requirements, and recommendations for risk referrals.
• Provide professional advice, guidance, and support to Business Units and Branch personnel on all aspects of Fire & Miscellaneous underwriting management and operations.
• Work closely with the Risk Survey, Claims, and Business Units to evaluate surveys, adjuster reports, loss ratios, and claims trends, and recommend risk improvement measures.
• Review underwriting guidelines periodically to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation to market changes.
• Conduct market research and support development of Fire & Miscellaneous insurance products by analyzing market needs and formulating profitable and marketable products.
• Support and strengthen the department's internal controls while ensuring full compliance with Company policies, procedures, governance standards, and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Job description

This role involves performing and supporting operations to ensure the profitability of the Fire & Miscellaneous portfolio while delivering high-quality underwriting services.

Responsibilities

• Assess all aspects of technical underwriting for new and renewal Fire & Miscellaneous insurance, including policy wording reviews, survey requirements, risk improvement measures, and recommendations for Risk Referral approvals.
• Assist in providing professional advice, guidance, and support to Business Units and Branch personnel on all aspects of Fire & Miscellaneous underwriting management and operations.
• Work closely with the Risk Survey Department, Claims Department, and Business Units to combat adverse trends by evaluating survey reports, adjuster reports, loss ratios, and claims trends, and recommend appropriate risk improvement measures whenever possible.
• Assist in reviewing underwriting guidelines periodically to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation to market changes.
• Assist in conducting market research and supporting the development of Fire & Miscellaneous insurance products by analyzing market needs and formulating profitable and marketable products.
• Support and strengthen the department's internal controls while ensuring full compliance with the Company's policies, procedures, corporate governance standards, and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
