Job summary

WD is seeking a Staff Equipment Engineer specializing in sputter media to lead the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of sputtering equipment used in HDD media production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high equipment availability and drive OEE improvements.

You will guide preventive and predictive maintenance, lead equipment upgrades, manage new installations and testing, and mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering with related discipline and relevant experience.
• 8–12 years in equipment engineering, preferably sputter media/semiconductor.
• Strong knowledge of vacuum systems and sputtering equipment.
• Excellent project management and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day equipment maintenance and line issue management to maximize availability.
• Lead reliability improvements and maintenance initiatives for stable operations.
• Drive preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability.
• Lead equipment upgrades and technology improvements for HDD product requirements.
• Manage new equipment installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
• Monitor performance and OEE data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Process Engineering and Sputter Yield teams to improve yield.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Facilities and cross-functional teams to meet targets.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation and SOPs.
