Job summary

NV5 Mission Critical, a division of NV5 Global, is seeking an Energy Marshal to lead the energy isolation program for a data center project in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The role involves enforcing LOTO, reviewing PTW, MS, and RA, and coordinating with construction teams to ensure safe testing of MEP systems.

Ideal candidates will have a solid electrical or mechanical background, strong safety knowledge, and excellent coordination skills to maintain a compliant and safe work environment on site.

• Experience developing and enforcing permits to work and safe working procedures
• Strong coordination and sequencing of activities

Responsibilities

• Act as single point of accountability for Energy Isolation across the project
• Establish and manage the energy isolation program, including LOTO processes
• Review safety documentation and identify energy sources (PTW, MS, RA)
• Conduct audits to verify effectiveness and address gaps
• Work with teams to ensure safe testing of MEP systems
• Ensure energy isolation per policy
• Participate in HRA planning meetings
• Promote safety culture in Data Center activities

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Energy Marshal to join our Malaysia team in Johor Bahru. The ideal candidate should manage and enforce the overall energy isolation program at the site related to MEP energy, in alignment with site requirements and safety standards within data center construction environment.

Role & Responsibilities

• Acts as the single point of accountability for all Energy Isolation activities across the project.
• Establish and manage the energy isolation program, including processes for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), ensuring proper procedures are followed for individual and group isolation.
• Review safety documentation and identify all potential energy sources, including PTW (Permit to Work), MS (Method Statement), and RA (Risk Assessment),
• Conduct audits to verify the effectiveness of the energy isolation program energy program for construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operations activities, while identifying and addressing any gaps or deficiencies.
• Work with construction and commissioning teams to ensure safe working conditions to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of MEP systems.
• Ensure all entities are performing energy isolation per standardized policy and procedure.
• Participate in High Risk Activity (HRA) planning meetings associated with Energy Isolation.
• Promote a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of Data Center activities.

Qualifications And Skills

• Solid understanding of both Electrical and Mechanical energy sources and their associated hazards.
• Either an electrical or mechanical background; however, they must be able to read and interpret all types of drawings, including Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Duct & Instrument Diagrams (D&ID), and others.
• Knowledge on pressurized fluid in piping
• Experience in developing and enforcing processes; permits to work, safe working procedures, or procedures for operating machinery
• Strong coordination skill, understands how to sequence activities
• Strong understanding of safety – especially electrical safety – from construction sites, manufacturing, oil & gas or factory production line
