Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a meticulous Legal Editor to proofread and edit journals, ensuring accuracy of headnotes and citations. You will translate headnotes when necessary and coordinate with typesetting for layout while maintaining in-house style guidelines.

The role collaborates with judges and registrars to clarify issues and supports senior editors on journal production. Applicants should have a law degree with 1–2 years in the legal field; publishing or legal research background is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Law is required.
  • 1–2 years of experience in the legal field.
  • Publishing or legal research background is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Proofreading – Apply in-house styles.
  • Prepare headnotes for selected cases and translate headnotes when needed.
  • Liaise with Typesetting on journal layout.
  • Research on citation, legislation, and quotations for accuracy.
  • Final proofreading of cases before sending to printer.
  • Close journal before release to printer.
  • Monitor headnotes quality by external writers.
  • Edit headnotes written by internal and external headnoters.
  • Liaise with Judges and Court Registrars to clarify judgments or cases.
  • Approve proof copy from printer before full run.
  • Assist Senior Editors in journals and other collaterals.
  • Coordinate with other departments for business-related needs.
