Job summary

LexisNexis Malaysia seeks a Legal Editor to ensure editorial content is accurate, current, and aligned with publishing schedules. The role involves collaboration with support staff to meet portfolio responsibilities and manage authors and freelancers effectively.

The editor will monitor developments in law, perform original research, and contribute to product development while maintaining high standards of quality assurance and customer support.

Qualifications

  • Experience in legal or editorial roles is preferred.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to accuracy.
  • Familiarity with legal developments and case law research.
  • Ability to manage multiple manuscripts and deadlines.

Responsibility
About The Role

The Legal Editor is responsible for assuring the integrity, utility and currency of the editorial content of publications assigned to the position. This must be done in the context of strict adherence to the publishing schedule and compliance with standards, including editorial benchmarks and quality assurance measures. Close interaction with support staff and operations personnel (where relevant) is required to carry out the role effectively. The Editor is also responsible for assisting the team to meet the team’s portfolio responsibilities.

Additional primary responsibilities of the role include author, freelancer and/or supplier management, control and development of content in line with customer needs, keeping aware of and ahead of competitor publications, conducting an annual product review to assess the performance of the assigned products, building knowledge of the market and assisting subscribers with queries as required.

Responsibilities
  • Editorial – Develop Content, edit manuscript for content and organisation to ensure accuracy, currency, relevance, conformance, accessibility and timeliness. Write material as required. Perform original research as required. Ensure that developments in the law are monitored. Assist other team members as required.
  • Project Management - Adhere to the publishing schedule for all formats; implement agreed plans for product enhancements. Work within set commercial parameters.
  • Relationship Management - Manage authors, freelancers and/or suppliers, including contract negotiations, ongoing author support, ensuring on-time delivery of manuscript/content and following up on quality issues.
  • Product Development – Work with team, colleagues and customers to develop and implement ongoing product development.
  • Process Improvement – Work with team, colleagues and customers to develop and implement continuous process improvements to achieve best practice.
  • Communication – Build effective relationships with colleagues, customers (internal and external) and management to ensure efficient execution of day-to-day operations and strategic plans.
Skills
COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE:
  • Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in law practice will be an advantage
  • Sound awareness of development in law
  • Demonstrated legal research skills
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Internet research skills
  • Superior reading comprehension skills
  • Experience in project management and an ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Sound commercial awareness
  • Knowledge of publishing workflow from idea conception through to receipt by customer will be an advantage
  • Familiarity with XML, DTDs, markup validation, and structured content publishing will be an added advantage.
