Job summary

SkyeChip seeks a Firmware Engineer in Penang to develop embedded firmware for memory PHY IP, including initialisation, training and calibration. You will work with RTL, circuit and verification teams to define interfaces and verify firmware on pre-silicon platforms, supporting silicon bring-up and customer integration.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years of embedded firmware experience, strong C/C++ skills, and familiarity with hardware–firmware interaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in embedded firmware development, hardware–firmware integration or silicon bring-up.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++, with experience developing firmware for embedded processors or microcontrollers.
• Experience with register-level programming, hardware interfaces and debugging embedded systems.
• Understanding of digital logic, computer architecture and hardware–firmware interaction.
• Familiarity with version control, debugging tools and Python scripting.

Job description

We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop embedded firmware for our HBM4 and LPDDR6 memory PHY IP. You will work closely with RTL, circuit and verification engineers, contributing throughout the development cycle—from firmware design and pre-silicon validation to silicon bring-up and customer integration.

Key Responsibilities

Firmware Development

Develop and maintain embedded firmware for PHY initialisation, memory training and calibration.

Implement firmware sequences for frequency changes, low-power transitions and compensation across operating conditions.

Training Algorithm Development

Develop and optimise training algorithms for timing alignment, voltage-reference calibration and reliable memory operation.

Analyse training results and improve firmware robustness, execution time and resource usage.

Hardware–Firmware Integration and Verification

Collaborate with RTL, circuit and verification teams to define hardware–firmware interfaces and register requirements.

Develop automated tests and validate firmware using simulation and other available pre-silicon platforms.

Silicon Bring-up and Debug

Perform silicon bring-up, characterisation and debugging across voltage, temperature and operating frequencies.

Investigate and resolve issues involving firmware, PHY hardware, memory controllers and memory devices.

Releases, Documentation and Customer Support

Maintain firmware releases, regression tests, design documentation and integration guides.

Support customer integration, issue reproduction and technical troubleshooting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.

At least 3 years of relevant working experience in embedded firmware development, hardware–firmware integration or silicon bring-up.

Strong programming skills in C/C++, with experience developing firmware for embedded processors or microcontrollers.

Experience with register-level programming, hardware interfaces and debugging embedded systems.

Understanding of digital logic, computer architecture and hardware–firmware interaction.

Familiarity with version control, debugging tools and scripting languages such as Python.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and across engineering teams.

Good spoken and written English. Mandarin speaking and reading proficiency is preferred but not compulsory.

Added Advantages

Experience with DDR, LPDDR or HBM memory interfaces, controllers or PHY IP.

Knowledge of memory training, calibration, timing margins and signal-integrity fundamentals.

Experience reading Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL and debugging simulation waveforms.

Experience with RISC-V or other embedded processor architectures.

Hands-on experience with silicon characterisation, laboratory equipment and automated testing.

Familiarity with firmware optimization, continuous integration and regression automation.
