Job Description: Elementary School Assistant Principal

INTRODUCTION

The ES Assistant Principal supports the ES Principal with leading all aspects of the preK3 to grade 5 program. This role requires the development and operationalization of a shared vision that centers on student learning - academic, social, and emotional. The ES AP will be a highly visible, approachable, and engaged individual within the school and the community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

A passion for English language learners, early literacy, and the science of reading

Experience with Common Core, inquiry-based learning, and UBD methodology

Enthusiasm for public speaking, face-to-face communication with staff, and conducting work outside the office

Lead students, parents, and teachers toward implementation of effective approaches to assessment, grading, learning, and unit design

Work closely with teachers, lead teachers, and principals to ensure spirited debate and wise decision making

Improve the quality of engaging assessments that drive students’ inquiry, depth of thinking, learning, and interest

Lead curriculum articulation to consistently improve balance, inquiry, and student engagement

Improve the school’s procedures for gathering and analyzing student data related to English language learning and proficiency

Identify English language proficiency goals based on assessment outcomes and develop an improvement plan to meet goals

Unify students, teachers, and parents to continuously improve English language skills

Raffles American School campus accommodates pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students. The 19‑hectare school is envisioned as a holistic learning environment that is seamlessly interwoven into its beautiful setting. Given the slope of the site, The campus consists of three main “terraces,” with each terrace occupied by a cluster of grade levels.

Our facilities include technology–integrated classrooms, science labs, visual art, libraries, and performing arts studios, as well as a performing arts center including a 800 seater auditorium and a black box theater.

The campus also features a host of athletic amenities including: Two separate indoor air‑conditioned gymnasiums, an olympic size swimming pool, a shallow training pool, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, soccer field, and stadium which includes a second full size soccer field, track and field, and 400 meter running track.
