Job summary

PeopleLAKE Group is partnering with a client that provides specialised consultation and commissioning engineering services for the Data Center Industry in Malaysia.

The 2-year contract involves leading the commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems for hyperscale data center projects, ensuring Tier compliance and coordinating FAT, IST, and audits with cross-functional teams in Kulai, Johor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including 1–2 years in data center commissioning or mission-critical facilities.
• Strong knowledge of data center HVAC systems, commissioning activities, and IST.
• Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier standards, certification processes, and design reviews.
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to review data center mechanical and electrical designs, including BOD, method statements, drawings, and technical documentation, and provide engineering solutions.
• Develop and validate engineering designs and calculations to meet client requirements and Tier standards.
• Coordinate Tier Certification of Design Documents (TCDD) and Tier Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF) audits.
• Lead and manage the commissioning (Cx) of mechanical and electrical systems for hyperscale data center projects.
• Plan, execute, and witness FAT, PST, IST and other tests to ensure successful project delivery.
• Prepare commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and test scripts; present weekly/monthly progress reports highlighting status, milestones, risks and mitigation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate system integration, testing and commissioning activities.
• Review contractor method statements and manufacturer test procedures for compliance with project specs and best practices.

About our client:

A company that provides specialised consultation and commissioning engineering services for the Data Center Industry.

Term: 2 years contract, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position based on your performance during this period.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to understand and review data center mechanical and electrical designs, including the Basis of Design (BOD), method statements, drawings, and technical documentation, while providing engineering solutions to complex challenges.


• Develop and validate engineering designs and calculations that meet or exceed client requirements and comply with Uptime Institute Tier standards.


• Participate in and support Uptime Institute certification processes, including coordination of Tier Certification of Design Documents (TCDD) and preparation for Tier Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF) audits.


• Coordinate with design consultants, contractors, and client teams to identify and close gaps required for Uptime Tier compliance.


• Conduct engineering reviews, audits, and technical analyses to ensure designs achieve Concurrently Maintainable or Fault Tolerant performance requirements.


• Lead and manage the commissioning (Cx) of mechanical and electrical systems for hyperscale data center projects.


• Plan, execute, and witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Pre-Start-Up Testing (PST), Performance Testing, Functional Testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).


• Prepare and review commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and test scripts to ensure successful project delivery.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate system integration, testing, and commissioning activities.


• Review contractor method statements and manufacturer test procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry best practices.


• Prepare and present weekly and monthly commissioning progress reports, highlighting project status, key milestones, risks, and mitigation plans.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.


• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including at least 1-2 years in data center commissioning, data center M&E design, or other mission-critical facilities.


• Strong knowledge of data center HVAC systems, commissioning activities, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).


• Familiarity with various electrical and mechanical system topologies designed for site redundancy, concurrent maintainability, and fault-tolerant operations.


• Practical experience with Uptime Institute Tier standards, certification processes, design reviews, commissioning, and operational readiness is highly advantageous.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.


• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical documentation skills.
