Qualifications

• Diploma or vocational certification in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
• Minimum 2 to 3 years' experience in general building maintenance, construction, or hotel engineering
• Relevant professional certification or license, where required by law
• Hotel or hospitality engineering experience preferred
• Working knowledge of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC and plumbing
• Fluent English required; other languages an advantage

Responsibilities

• Complete maintenance work orders promptly across all departments
• Train and guide junior engineering staff on electrical, mechanical and safety procedures
• Promote teamwork and coordinate with other departments to meet guest and operational needs
• Maintain inventory levels for spare parts, tools and supplies while controlling costs

The Duty Engineer is the hands on engineering presence for every shift, keeping the hotel's electrical, mechanical and building systems running smoothly and responding quickly whenever something needs attention. This role blends technical know how with calm, capable service, resolving maintenance issues before guests ever notice them.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

People

• Complete maintenance work orders from all departments on a timely basis, following the hotel's standard operating procedures
• Train and guide junior engineering colleagues on electrical, mechanical and safety procedures, ensuring the team has the tools and knowledge to carry out their roles
• Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments, staying informed of ongoing guest and operational needs
  
• Maintain proper inventory levels for spare parts, tools and supplies, controlling costs while minimising downtime
• Monitor energy consumption and flag opportunities to reduce waste or inefficiency

Guest Experience

• Understand and respond to guest needs promptly to ensure a high level of satisfaction with the hotel's facilities
• Keep all equipment in good repair with a minimum of downtime, including electrical switchgear, lighting, HVAC, plumbing and emergency power systems

Responsible Business

• Inspect, clean, maintain and repair electrical lighting fixtures, floodlighting, signage, socket outlets, circuit breakers and emergency lighting installations
• Carry out preventive maintenance tasks on all electrical and mechanical equipment and distribution boards, maintaining emergency power supply and uninterruptible power systems
• Be thoroughly familiar with all regulations regarding engineering safety, observing these meticulously at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned

Accountabilities

• Acts as the senior engineering presence on duty, responding to maintenance needs and emergencies across the hotel
• Timely completion of maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance schedules across guest and back of house areas
• Compliance with safety, regulatory and environmental standards across the engineering department
• May supervise engineering team members and contractors in the absence of the Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer
