Project Manager (PM) / Development Director (DD)

The Project Manager (PM), also called Development Director (DD) at EA, is a critical role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of a game on time and within budget. Prior to production, they carry out a detailed analysis of the game design, work out the project milestones, agree upon them with key technical and creative managers, and then work out a schedule, personnel, and equipment needs.

Once development is underway, the DD monitors the team’s progress against the schedule, prioritizes when production deadlines are a concern, manages risks, and plans for contingencies. The PM / DD is responsible for all people management on the team and is tasked with motivating and developing all staff under their management, including career development.

EA is willing to look at relocating the right candidate to Shanghai for this role.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Establish an overall project schedule based on individual task estimates; determine resource requirements; validate task duration and dependencies; establish a budget for each task; assign tasks to team resources; establish test plans and success criteria.
  • Manage the change request process; decompose change requests into component tasks; estimate the impact of each change on schedule, budget, and resources; communicate impact to stakeholders; produce a work breakdown structure from a design document.
Staff Management
  • Provide inspiring leadership by proactively meeting or communicating with employees individually to monitor and prevent potential problems or concerns; reward and recognize performance; coach on performance issues; monitor workload and recognize extra effort with praise and discretionary rewards.
  • Participate in development of retention programs; work with team members to develop and pursue a career action plan and identify growth opportunities; provide information on self‑study, courses and training; participate in employee performance evaluations; recruit new team members by reviewing resumes, interviewing and assessing candidates.
Leadership
  • Ensure adequate equipment, tools, and support are provided for team members.
  • Enhance personal understanding of the production process and actively offer input.
  • Provide input for departmental planning (resource planning, cost estimates, etc.); facilitate process improvements across departments; demonstrate comfort in moving beyond micro‑management of junior staff and direct delegated responsibility effectively.
What skills does EA look for?
  • 5+ years of software development experience; 4 years of Project Management experience.
  • 3 years of leadership experience (line management).
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Educational background: Bachelor’s degree. Ideal candidate should include a degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • PMP certification is an asset.
  • Mandarin/English bilingual preferred.
