Job summary

The International Islamic University Malaysia invites applications for a Dental Surgeon specializing in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery based in Kuantan. The role covers comprehensive clinical care, surgical planning, and daily management across outpatient clinics, wards and theatre.

You will participate in on-call duties, teaching dental students and trainees, and contribute to community outreach and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery (BDS/DDS) or equivalent recognised by the MDC.
• Valid MDC registration and an APC.
• Experience in hospital-based dentistry, preferably OMFS.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical dental care and OMFS services, including diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Perform minor oral surgical procedures and manage trauma cases.
• Care for patients at outpatient clinics, wards and in the operating theatre.
• Participate in on-call duties after hours, weekends and public holidays.
• Engage in community outreach and dental health promotion activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and supervise trainees.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reports.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical dental care and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) services, including diagnosis, treatment planning and management of surgical and non-surgical cases.
• Perform minor oral surgical procedures and provide basic management of oral and maxillofacial trauma cases.
• Manage patients at outpatient dental clinics, wards and the operating theatre, ensuring safe, timely and quality patient care.
• Participate actively in the on-call duty roster, including after office hours, weekends and public holidays, to attend to emergency dental and maxillofacial cases.
• Participate in community outreach programs and dental health promotion and awareness activities organised by the hospital/university.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including medical, nursing and allied health colleagues, in the management of patients.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, records and reports in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of dental students, house officers and other trainees, where applicable.
• Undertake continuous professional development and support quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Provide dental care and support services in Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry clinics as required.

3. Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Dental Surgery (BDS/DDS) or equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC).
• Valid registration with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) and a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Possess relevant working experience in hospital-based dentistry, preferably within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, is an added advantage.

4. Minimum Competencies

• Hardworking, diligent and serious in carrying out clinical duties and responsibilities.
• Able to work under pressure and long working hours while maintaining quality patient care.
• Good team player who is loyal, supportive and committed to colleagues and the department.
• Sound medical and surgical knowledge and clinical skills relevant to general dentistry and Oral @Maxillofacial Surgery.
• Willingness and flexibility to perform on-call duties, including after office hours, weekends and public holidays.
• Willingness to participate in outreach programs and community dental health promotion activities.
• Highly motivated and proactive, and not calculative in carrying out duties beyond the routine scope of work.
• Willing to learn and undergo continuous professional development, training and supervision.
• High level of integrity, dedication and professionalism in the workplace.

5. Other Requirements (if any)

• Must possess valid registration with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) and a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Willing to be based in Kuantan and to travel for outreach and community dental program as required.
• Willing to perform on-call duties, including after office hours, weekends and public holidays, as scheduled by the department.

6. Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

• Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
• IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.

Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
