Job summary

Thakral One is seeking a Data Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as the primary data contact across enterprise platforms, translating business needs into system mappings and driving data adoption. You will bridge business users and technology teams to improve data usage and reduce engineering dependency.

You will lead data requirements, glossary creation, and data product readiness across data warehouses, lakes, and feature stores, while supporting UAT and data onboarding initiatives.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of experience as a Business Analyst or Data Business Analyst.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise data platforms or analytics environments.
• Strong understanding of data concepts including data models, datasets, and data lineage.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Data Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will serve as the primary point of contact for data-related queries across enterprise data platforms and data products. You will bridge business users and technology teams by helping stakeholders find the right data, understand what it means, and translate business needs into clear system-level mappings. You will play a key role in improving data adoption, enabling effective data usage, and reducing dependency on engineering teams.

What You’ll Do and How You’ll Succeed

Data SME & Business Support

• Act as the go-to point of contact for data-related queries from business users across domains.
• Support business users in identifying the right data elements, datasets, and data products for their use cases.
• Explain data definitions, lineage, and usage in business-friendly terms.
• Resolve data queries by working across data platforms, products, and source systems.

Business Requirements & Data Mapping

• Elicit, analyse, and document data-focused business requirements.
• Translate business requirements into logical and physical data mappings, including source systems, tables and columns, and data elements and attributes.
• Work closely with Group Technology and data engineering teams to ensure requirements are accurately interpreted.
• Facilitate requirement walkthroughs, clarification sessions, and data deep-dives.

Business Glossary & Documentation

• Create and maintain business glossary definitions, data element descriptions, and domain terminology.
• Support alignment between business definitions and technical implementations.
• Ensure documentation is kept current and reusable across teams and initiatives.
• Provide SME support for enterprise data platforms and data products such as data warehouses, data lakes, and feature stores.
• Support data onboarding, enhancements, and data consumption use cases.
• Assist with UAT planning and execution for data-related initiatives, including validation of data against business expectations.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of data issues in collaboration with platform and engineering teams.

Stakeholder & Demand Management

• Act as a trusted interface between business units.
• Proactively manage data demand intake and prioritisation for assigned domains.
• Provide regular updates on requirement status, dependencies, and delivery risks.
• Support broader data demand and asset management initiatives.
• Support enterprise data platform and SME activities across data warehouses, data lakes, and feature stores.
• Support data asset and demand management, including requirements, documentation, and UAT support.
• Enable feature store and broader data product adoption.
• Support GenAI initiatives through data requirements, readiness, and UAT support.
• Help drive adoption of analytics and data tools across business units.

We’d Love to Hear From You If…

Experience

• You have 3 to 7 years of experience as a Business Analyst or Data Business Analyst.
• You have hands-on experience working with enterprise data platforms or analytics environments.

Technical Expertise

• You have a strong understanding of data concepts, including data models, datasets, and data lineage.
• You have working knowledge of SQL for basic data exploration and validation.
• You have experience mapping business requirements to systems, tables, and columns.
• Familiarity with data platforms and tools such as Power BI, OAS, Denodo, Feature Stores, or similar tools will be an advantage.
• Exposure to data governance, business glossary, or metadata management will be an advantage.
• Understanding of Agile or Scrum delivery models will be an advantage.
• Experience supporting regulatory or compliance-driven data use cases will be an advantage.
