Contract
We are looking for a Data Scientist specializing in Image Processing and Image Classification to join our R&D team in Penang. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data science, statistics, machine learning, and image analytics, with experience applying analytical solutions to real-world engineering, manufacturing, electronics, or technology-driven problems.
The role involves working closely with cross-functional R&D teams to transform complex engineering and scientific problems into data-driven solutions, while contributing to technology development, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct data-centric evaluations, analytical studies, and investigations to support R&D projects, technology development, and validation activities.
Apply statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to solve complex engineering and scientific problems.
Develop and implement image processing and image classification solutions for R&D and technology applications.
Perform feature engineering, model development, validation, and performance optimization.
Translate engineering and scientific requirements into practical, scalable analytical solutions.
Perform data sourcing, preparation, transformation, and ETL activities for analytical projects.
Leverage Cloud and Big Data technologies to enable scalable data exploration, processing, and advanced analytics.
Ensure data quality, consistency, traceability, and reliability through effective data management and governance practices.
Develop reproducible analytics workflows and maintain appropriate technical documentation.
Visualization & Data Storytelling
Create clear and impactful visualizations, dashboards, and analytical reports.
Communicate complex analytical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Use data storytelling techniques to translate analytical insights into actionable recommendations.
Work with tools such as Power BI or Tableau where required.
Collaborate with cross-functional R&D, engineering, and technology teams across different locations.
Lead analytical workstreams and contribute to technical decision-making where required.
Mentor junior team members and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
Support agile ways of working and contribute to continuous improvement of data science methodologies, tools, and best practices.
Participate in peer reviews and ensure analytical solutions meet quality and governance standards.
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
3+ years of relevant experience in data science, machine learning, image processing, image classification, or advanced analytics.
Experience working in R&D, engineering, manufacturing, electronics, or other technology-driven environments is highly preferred.
Strong experience with image processing and/or image classification techniques.
End-to-end experience across analytics projects, including:
Data sourcing and ETL
Data preprocessing
Deployment/automation
Stakeholder reporting
Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning, including classification, regression, clustering, time-series analysis, optimization, experimental design, and model validation.
Strong problem-solving skills with a structured and hypothesis-driven approach, such as CRISP-DM.
Experience developing reproducible analytics, maintaining documentation, conducting peer reviews, and implementing data quality checks.
