Job summary

Businesslist in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Data Privacy Officer to lead privacy program development and compliance with Malaysia's PDPA Act 709. You will manage policy creation, risk assessments, and training to ensure protection of personal data across all business units.

The role requires experience with data controllers/processors, governance, and regulatory communications, with responsibilities spanning breach handling and third-party risk management.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Malaysia Act 709 and data protection requirements.
• Understanding of data controller/processor operations and personal data processing.
• Awareness of information technology and data security.
• Personal integrity, governance understanding, and ethics.
• Ability to promote data protection culture within the organization.
• Excellent communication to regulators on behalf of the company.
• May perform additional official duties (e.g., Legal Counsel, Risk Champion).

Responsibilities

• Experience in data privacy matters as data controller and processor.
• Adopt a risk-based approach to processing operations and coordinate stakeholders.
• Lead formulation of policies for collection and processing under PDPA.
• Implement and monitor privacy policies across functions and units.
• Advise on laws, regulations, standards for compliance with personal data protection.
• Create awareness and train on Act 709 requirements.
• Support compliance with Act 709 and related data protection laws.
• Identify processing activities and maintain records.
• Advise on security measures to protect personal data.
• Assess risks and advise on third-party data transfer agreements.
• Liaise with external privacy counsel for audits and reviews.
• Privacy by design for products and platforms.
• Conduct privacy compliance checks and respond to client requirements.
• Ensure data breach management and reporting to authorities.
