Job summary

Star Media Group Berhad is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and cloud infrastructure for enterprise analytics. You will architect automated ingestion workflows, optimize BigQuery, and bridge raw data to insights to support AI and analytics initiatives.

Join a leading Malaysian media group and collaborate with analytics, data science, and business teams to deliver high-quality datasets and automated reporting; 2–5 years of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of data engineering experience with Python ETL and scalable pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills, BigQuery expertise, and relational DB knowledge (MySQL).
• 2 to 5 years with GCP services (Cloud Storage, Dataflow) and distributed frameworks (Spark/Beam).
• Proven experience using Apache Airflow and dbt to manage complex data workflows.
• 1 to 3 years building dashboards with Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and manage end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and ingestion workflows from diverse sources to structured BigQuery tables.
• Manage GCP cloud infrastructure and optimize BigQuery performance via schema design, partitioning, and tuning.
• Implement data quality monitoring and privacy compliance (PDPA) with data lifecycle policies.
• Support Business Analytics and Data Science teams by delivering clean datasets and automated reporting extracts.

Ready to power the analytics engine behind Malaysia's leading media group? As a Data Engineer at Star Media Group, you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and cloud infrastructure to power our enterprise analytics engine. You will architect automated ingestion workflows, optimize cloud data warehouses, and bridge the gap between raw datasets and actionable insights to support AI and analytics initiatives.

What You Will Do

• Data Pipeline & Management: Architect, build, and manage end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and ingestion workflows to transform raw data from diverse sources into structured BigQuery tables.
• Cloud Architecture & Performance: Manage GCP cloud infrastructure (Dataflow, Cloud Storage) and optimize BigQuery performance via query tuning, schema design, and partitioned/clustered tables.
• Data Governance & Quality: Implement data quality monitoring frameworks, enforce privacy compliance (PDPA), and maintain data lifecycle policies including retention and archiving.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support Business Analytics and Data Science teams by disseminating clean, high-quality datasets and delivering automated downstream reporting extracts.

Required Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of experience in data engineering, custom Python ETL scripting, scalable pipeline orchestration, and cloud infrastructure management.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, Google BigQuery, and relational databases (e.g., MySQL).
• 2 to 5 years with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Storage, Dataflow) and distributed computing frameworks (Apache Spark or Apache Beam).
• Proven experience using Apache Airflow and dbt to manage complex data workflows.
• 1 to 3 years of building dashboards using Google Data Studio (Looker Studio), Tableau, or Microsoft Power BI.
