Job summary

BP in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) invites you to join the T&S Contracts Team as Contracts Lead Analyst. You will oversee contracting for physical and low‑carbon trades, lead a team, and ensure robust, compliant agreements across functions including legal, settlements, and risk.

You will draft contracts, manage templates, monitor governance, and drive improvements while engaging with internal stakeholders to resolve issues, aligning with BP's standards and market practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Legal Studies with at least five years of corporate experience.
  • Minimum of two years in a Contracts Analyst role or energy trading environment.
  • Strong expertise in global contract drafting, negotiation, and management.
  • Good understanding of commodity trading and the oil and gas industry, including Incoterms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Contracts team members with guidance and mentoring.
  • Maintain contracts register and templates; ensure compliance.
  • Draft contracts for physical and low-carbon trades; coordinate with Legal.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to resolve contractual issues.
  • Report KPIs and drive process improvements in contract governance.

About the Role

The T&S Contracts Team performs day‑to‑day control and administration of physical and low‑carbon trading contracts, tenders and general terms and conditions. This role requires practical experience in contracting commodities, extensive knowledge of contracts and legal terms, and a strong commercial orientation. The Contracts Lead Analyst is the key liaison with third parties, traders, marketers, originators, legal and other stakeholders to fulfil responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership and Capability Building:
    • Provide guidance, support, training and mentoring to Contracts team members.
    • Work with the Team Lead to identify key stakeholders, build effective relationships and maintain a strong customer focus.
    • Promote a consistently high level of professionalism, technical expertise and service delivery across the team.
  • Contract Management and Governance:
    • Maintain a robust contracts register, standard contract templates and ensure compliance with control processes.
    • Act as the key liaison with Heads of Functions, Singapore Operations, Contracts, Settlements and Credit to resolve any deviation from agreed contractual obligations.
    • Oversee and ensure timely responses to inward faxes, emails and ad‑hoc queries from third parties within agreed control timescales.
  • Contract Drafting and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Create contracts for physical and low‑carbon commodity trades with third parties, ensuring timely execution and that contracts are robust, fit for purpose and commercially sound.
    • Liaise with Legal, Contracts and other relevant partners as required to support contract development, review and execution.
  • Compliance, Risk and Issue Resolution:
    • Maintain awareness of legal restrictions that may require changes to existing procedures or support processes.
    • Understand compliance issues affecting trades and report any potential concerns.
    • Promptly report and resolve any mismatch of data or terms between back‑office systems and other trade‑related information sources.
  • Performance Reporting and Continuous Improvement:
    • Ensure timely reporting of management information and Key Performance Indicators to the regional office.
    • Champion, drive and deliver continuous improvement ideas that enhance team effectiveness and process efficiency.
What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications)
  • Degree in Legal Studies or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification, with at least five years’ relevant corporate experience, including a minimum of two years in a Contracts Analyst role and/or energy trading environment.
  • Strong expertise in global contract drafting, negotiation, execution and management.
  • Good understanding of commodity trading and the oil and gas industry.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms and shipping terminology.
