Job summary

DayOne Data Centers Ltd. in Malaysia is seeking a Construction Manager (Mechanical) to lead the M&E lifecycle of data-centre projects across APAC.

You will coordinate with site teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe, on-time delivery of complex mechanical systems. The role requires 10+ years in construction project management in M&E or engineering, strong knowledge of HVAC, power, and fire protection, and experience with IST and CAPEX planning.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in construction project management within the M&E or engineering field.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale M&E projects with strong knowledge of HVAC, power systems and fire protection.
• Expertise in M&E systems, local authority approvals, and IST in data centers.
• Solid understanding of CAPEX planning, cost estimation, and total cost of ownership for M&E systems in data centers.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Proficiency in project management tools, MS Project, and MS Office; strong organization and time-management skills.
• Demonstrates initiative, collaboration, and resilience under pressure.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); APAC languages are advantageous.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Construction Manager (Mechanical) oversees the comprehensive lifecycle of construction projects, ensuring efficient project planning, execution, and handover. This role requires expertise in managing mechanical systems, coordinating with site teams and contractors, and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders to meet project objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Project Management & Leadership Oversee the entire M&E construction lifecycle, including planning, execution, and handover phases. Coordinate with site and contractor teams to ensure timely completion of M&E project milestones. Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring clear communication of updates on schedules, budgets, and technical issues to stakeholders.
• Contract & Financial Management Lead M&E-specific contract negotiations and oversee amendments with architects, consultants, and subcontractors. Evaluate M&E construction methods for cost-effectiveness, monitor budget adherence, and produce regular progress and financial reports.
• Stakeholder & Contractor Relations Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and relevant authorities, ensuring adherence to project standards. Provide support to local teams on customer discussions regarding M&E project progress and any technical challenges.
• Design & Systems Coordination Collaborate closely with external consultants to ensure effective design and construction of M&E systems within data centers, covering HVAC, electrical distribution, fire protection, and other critical infrastructure. Ensure the successful handover of M&E systems to operational teams, addressing any outstanding issues or deficiencies.
• Safety & Compliance Lead safety initiatives on-site, ensuring full compliance with M&E regulations and industry standards. Oversee adherence to all relevant permitting and government authority requirements for M&E projects.
• Continuous Improvement & Quality Assurance Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the project team. Implement advanced project management and quality control techniques to optimize M&E project outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience in construction project management within the M&E or engineering field; additional experience in data center projects is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in delivering large-scale M&E projects, with strong knowledge of HVAC, power systems, and fire protection.
• Expertise in M&E systems, local authority approval processes, and testing and commissioning of critical infrastructure in data centers, including Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Solid understanding of CAPEX planning, cost estimation, and total cost of ownership (TCO) for M&E systems in data centers.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Proficiency in project management tools, MS Project, and MS Office, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Demonstrates initiative, collaboration, and resilience under pressure.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages in the APAC region are advantageous.
