Job summary

DayOne is expanding in Asia with a focus on high-performance data centers. We seek a Construction Manager (Mechanical) to oversee the complete lifecycle of M&E projects, coordinating with site teams and contractors to ensure timely, on-budget delivery of critical infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in M&E project management, strong HVAC/power knowledge, and experience with IST testing. Fluency in English is required; APAC language skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in construction project management within M&E or engineering; data center experience preferred.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale M&E projects with HVAC, power systems and fire protection.
• Expertise in M&E systems, approvals, and IST testing for data centers.
• Strong CAPEX, cost estimation and TCO knowledge for M&E in data centers.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical or Electrical fields.
• Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project) and MS Office; strong organization.
• Demonstrates initiative and resilience under pressure.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); APAC language skills are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire M&E construction lifecycle from planning to handover.
• Coordinate site and contractor teams to meet milestones and budgets.
• Identify and mitigate project risks; communicate updates to stakeholders.
• Lead M&E contract negotiations and amendments with architects and subs.
• Evaluate construction methods for cost-effectiveness and prepare progress reports.
• Manage relationships with contractors, consultants, and authorities.
• Collaborate with external consultants on HVAC, electrical and fire protection design.
• Ensure successful handover of M&E systems to operations and address deficiencies.
• Lead safety initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance on site.

Position Overview

The Construction Manager (Mechanical) oversees the comprehensive lifecycle of construction projects, ensuring efficient project planning, execution, and handover. This role requires expertise in managing mechanical systems, coordinating with site teams and contractors, and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Leadership

• Oversee the entire M&E construction lifecycle, including planning, execution, and handover phases.
• Coordinate with site and contractor teams to ensure timely completion of M&E project milestones.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring clear communication of updates on schedules, budgets, and technical issues to stakeholders.

Contract & Financial Management

• Lead M&E-specific contract negotiations and oversee amendments with architects, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Evaluate M&E construction methods for cost-effectiveness, monitor budget adherence, and produce regular progress and financial reports.

Stakeholder & Contractor Relations

• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and relevant authorities, ensuring adherence to project standards.
• Provide support to local teams on customer discussions regarding M&E project progress and any technical challenges.

Design & Systems Coordination

• Collaborate closely with external consultants to ensure effective design and construction of M&E systems within data centers, covering HVAC, electrical distribution, fire protection, and other critical infrastructure.
• Ensure the successful handover of M&E systems to operational teams, addressing any outstanding issues or deficiencies.

Safety & Compliance

• Lead safety initiatives on-site, ensuring full compliance with M&E regulations and industry standards.
• Oversee adherence to all relevant permitting and government authority requirements for M&E projects.

Continuous Improvement & Quality Assurance

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the project team.
• Implement advanced project management and quality control techniques to optimize M&E project outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in construction project management within the M&E or engineering field; additional experience in data center projects is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in delivering large-scale M&E projects, with strong knowledge of HVAC, power systems, and fire protection.
• Expertise in M&E systems, local authority approval processes, and testing and commissioning of critical infrastructure in data centers, including Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Solid understanding of CAPEX planning, cost estimation, and total cost of ownership (TCO) for M&E systems in data centers.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Proficiency in project management tools, MS Project, and MS Office, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Demonstrates initiative, collaboration, and resilience under pressure.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages in the APAC region are advantageous.
