KONTRON ASIA PACIFIC DESIGN SDN BHD is seeking a senior Component Engineer to lead and improve component engineering strategies for complex electronic and mechanical parts. You will collaborate with Engineering and Procurement to evaluate components, select alternatives, and ensure product continuity across regions.
The role requires 5+ years in electronics, strong MTBF and environmental compliance knowledge, and proficiency with SAP and MS Office.
Lead and continuously improve Component Engineering processes and strategies for complex electronic and mechanical components, ensuring their effective implementation across the organization;
Serve as a key technical partner to Engineering and Procurement by evaluating components, identifying suitable alternatives and supporting sourcing decisions that maintain component availability and product continuity;
Lead local, regional and global component management activities. Provide user training within the North American organization and support the following key processes:
Managing the component lifecycle, from initial creation through end of life (EOL);
Reviewing and processing Product Change Notifications (PCNs), assessing their potential impact and coordinating the required follow-up actions;
Managing component-related environmental requirements (RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, PFAS, TSCA, Packaging, Full Material Declaration);
Preparing theoretical reliability reports, including MTBF and other reliability analysis.
Lead component-related supplier and service-provider selection activities at the local, regional and global levels, working closely with Procurement teams and contract manufacturer managers to support North American operations;
Provide leadership on complex component environmental compliance matters by assessing regulatory and customer requirements, determining their impact on products & components and coordinating the technical information and documentation needed to address a wide range of customer requests;
Perform any other related duties.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline.
More than 5 years of experience in the electronics industry, including at least 3 years of hands‑on experience in component engineering, component lifecycle management, obsolescence management or a closely related role.
Strong knowledge of electronic and mechanical components, PC architecture, component lifecycle and obsolescence management, Product Change Notification (PCN) assessment, component qualification, component risk analysis and technical documentation.
Practical experience in component evaluation, alternate part assessment, approved parts management and product continuity support, with the ability to work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Quality and Manufacturing teams to resolve component-related issues and mitigate lifecycle and supply risks.
Hands‑on experience preparing and processing component‑related Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), maintaining accurate component records and documentation and working within formal configuration and change‑control processes. Familiarity with Line Fit environments, including traceability, documentation and customer approval requirements.
Familiarity with MTBF calculation tools, environmental and material compliance requirements, including RoHS, REACH, TSCA, PFAS, packaging regulations, Conflict Minerals and related material declarations.
Proficient in ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to effectively utilize AI tools to support analysis, documentation and day-to-day engineering activities.
Strong organizational, communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, initiative and a strong sense of ownership.
