AmBank Group in Malaysia is seeking a Senior Compliance professional to support the SVP, Compliance and oversee second-line risk and regulatory adherence across functions.
You will help implement the Compliance Programme, develop policies, provide advisory on new products, ensure AML/CFT readiness, and train teams to meet BNM, CMSA and Bursa requirements.
The role requires 6–8 years in banking/financial services with at least 3 years in a compliance or regulatory role.
This role will report to Senior Vice President (SVP), Compliance and will assist in the support of all functions and business segments under the Entity to facilitate understanding of and adherence to all regulatory compliance requirements and AmBank Group policies. The role will assist the SVP, Compliance to identify and mitigate Compliance Risk for the Entity.
Assist SVP in the development and implementation of the Compliance Programme for all the functions under the Entity.
Assist SVP, Compliance with ongoing second-line oversight of how the Business manages its Compliance risk and controls.
Assist in formulation of appropriate policies with Group Compliance to ensure Compliance risk is mitigated and regulatory requirements are adhered to.
Coordinate with the Line of Businesses to implement/operationalize new/changes to regulatory requirements and internal policies/procedures.
Assist in providing Compliance advisory services to the Line of Businesses that includes but is not limited to, implementation of new/ variation of products and services and requirements on changes to existing products as well as implementation readiness.
Assist in ensuring robust implementation of the AML/CFT Programme for the entity.
Ensure adequate focus and training are provided to the Entity on regulatory areas of concern for example, the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, Financial Services Act 2013, Foreign Exchange Policies and related requirements, provisions of market conduct, Conflict of Interest and Personal Account Dealing, where applicable.
Identify and elevate potential and emerging risks/threats to the Line of Businesses based on internal reviews, market surveillance and engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in the preparation of Compliance reports to the Board of Directors providing timely and adequate updates on areas of concerns, new developments and progress of key initiatives/projects and deliverables.
Assist in conducting periodic assessment on Line of Businesses as
Required by the regulators (applicable to AmInvestment Bank business segments) and submission on monthly, half yearly and yearly assessment reports to the regulators (Bursa Malaysia and Securities Commission).
Ensure timely update of regulatory non-compliance incidents identified by the respective units within the Entity, monitor timely update and track closure of corrective actions.
Strategic Initiatives, and Stakeholder Engagement
Responsible as the AmInvestment Bank registered Compliance Officer and Line of Businesses’ single point of contact for all regulatory, supervisory and law enforcement agencies (LEA).
Assist SVP in the preparation for key Business meetings (Broking Forum and Capital Markets Committee) to discuss compliance related matters and events to keep abreast with operations and business plans, processes and developments.
Participate in all initiatives to promote Compliance Culture for Entity and the Bank.
Keep timely communications with internal stakeholders and the Regulatory Supervision (Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission of Malaysia, and Bursa Malaysia) to communicate/escalate issues timely.
Assist in managing resource requirements and team productivity to meet regulatory and internal compliance obligations/commitments.
Responsible Finance
Escalate to SVP, Compliance for any issues or potential issues that will impact financial performance and reputational risk of the Entity such as fines/penalties.
Assist in managing Compliance expenses within approved budget for the year. This includes but is not limited to a continuous effort in monitoring and identifying ineffective processes within the Compliance function resulting in excesses.
Participate in applicable Compliance and/or bank-wide cost management initiatives.
Leadership & Talent Development
Mentor and coach Compliance Officers to "Learn on the Job".
Develop and/or identify appropriate training programmes to keep abreast of Compliance and Regulatory related developments.
Build and source Compliance talent pool to provide a ready pipeline to address attrition and succession planning.
Participate in the development of compliance culture for the AmBank Group.
Job Requirements
Minimum 6-8 years of relevant experience in banking, financial services, capital markets, investment banking, stockbroking, derivatives, asset management, compliance, audit, risk, regulatory advisory, business control or regulator environment.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a compliance, regulatory advisory, assurance, monitoring, governance or control-related role.
Good working knowledge of Securities Commission Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia, BNM requirements, CMSA, AML/CFT obligations, market conduct requirements, licensing, regulatory reporting, personal account dealing, and other relevant capital market regulatory requirements.
Experience in providing practical, risk-based compliance advisory to business units on new products, services, regulatory changes, policy requirements, implementation readiness and control enhancements.
Ability to identify, assess, elevate, track and close regulatory non-compliance incidents, audit findings, control gaps and corrective action plans.
Experience liaising with regulators and coordinating regulatory requests, inspections, information submissions, queries and follow-up actions.
Ability to manage, guide and review work performed by compliance officers or support staff, including effective deployment of resources for advisory, review and reporting activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare or review compliance advisory memos, regulatory submissions, compliance reports, working papers, management updates and Board/committee materials.
Degree or professional qualification in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Banking, Risk Management, Compliance, Capital Markets or a related discipline. Relevant professional compliance, AML/CFT, audit, banking or capital market certification would be an added advantage.
Strong analytical thinking, sound judgement, stakeholder management skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and high standards of integrity and confidentiality.
