Job summary

SRX Global (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is seeking a Commodity Buyer to manage purchasing for direct and indirect materials in Penang. You will maintain strong supplier relationships, optimize lead times, and negotiate favorable contracts to control costs and inventory levels.

The role requires experience with MRP systems, plus proficiency in MS Word and Excel. You will coordinate with Accounts Payable on invoices and resolve supply issues quickly to support production targets.

Qualifications

• Tertiary education in a business-related field or a formal qualification in purchasing or materials management.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a purchasing role with exposure in both direct material and indirect material.
• Experience in working with MRP systems.
• Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that components are ordered and supplied in a timely manner to prevent shortages occurring so that production is not adversely affected
• Continually update the MRPII system with current supplier information on lead times and shipping dates, monitor the system for any anticipated shortages
• Negotiate contracts that enable the company to buy at the most advantageous terms with regard to inventory, cash flow and standard costs
• Maintain a close working relationship with suppliers globally on a daily basis thus obtaining information on the current market situation, and ensuring their prompt assistance in stock related queries
• Ensure supply problems and shortages are resolved whilst having regard for the total cost of supply
• Resolve price discrepancies with suppliers and assist Accounts Payable with invoice queries
• Ensure compliance to the materials procedure and drive improvements in the scores for section 2.
• Expeditiously action all NCR’s, and ensure that credit is received for all faulty goods
