We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven Commercial Manager with expertise in Apparel, Footwear, Equipment, or Accessories to lead category strategy, buying decisions, and supplier partnerships. This role is ideal for a strategic leader with deep market insight, strong negotiation capabilities, and a passion for driving category growth within the retail industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Market & Product Leadership
- Monitor global and regional market trends, product innovation cycles, consumer demand shifts, and major product types.
- Translate market insights into actionable buying and assortment strategies to maximize sales opportunities and inventory efficiency.
- Identify growth opportunities across apparel categories, brands, and product segments.
Budget Ownership
- Manage Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Margin, and Contribution budgets for the category
- Review and approve budget reallocations within category groups when required.
- Initiate buy slowdowns, re-phasing, or temporary purchase freezes based on market conditions and inventory risks.
Category Buy Plan Management
- Consolidate category buy plans into an overall demand and inventory view.
- Challenge assortment strategies, product mix, and depth/width decisions to ensure commercial viability.
- Ensure category buys align with market trends, commercial objectives, and risk appetite.
- Own purchase phasing and commitment timing for the category.
- Optimize cash flow, inventory freshness, sell-through performance, and markdown risk through strategic buying decisions.
Brand & Supplier Negotiation
- Evaluate product potential, market trends, and purchase forecasts with brand partners and suppliers.
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, margins, rebates, and exclusivity agreements to maximize business performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
Job Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Marketing, Retail Management, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in retail buying, category management, or commercial management within the Apparel industry.
- Strong retail background with experience in omnichannel or large-format retail environments is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of category P&L, sales performance, margin management, inventory control, and contribution analysis.
- Proven ability to analyze market trends, sales data, stock performance, and consumer demand to make data-driven decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier negotiations, commercial planning, and vendor management.
- Experience in assortment planning, distribution strategy, and stock management across multiple channels and locations.
- Strong collaboration skills with Planning, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, E-commerce, and Store Operations teams.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; familiarity with ERP or retail management systems is preferred.
- Strategic thinker, commercially minded, results-oriented, and passionate about the Apparel category.
