Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an experienced COBOL Mainframe Developer to join the team supporting enterprise applications in a banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on COBOL, JCL, VSAM and IBM Mainframe/z/OS experience, with a track record in development, maintenance, troubleshooting and production support.

Responsibilities include developing and supporting COBOL-based applications on IBM Mainframe systems, analyzing BRD/FSD, coding, testing, and deploying batch and online

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on Mainframe Development experience.
• Strong COBOL and JCL expertise.
• Proficient in VSAM.
• Experience in debugging and production support.
• IDMS and production support experience is a plus.
• Experience with legacy mainframe systems.
• Banking/Cards domain experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, enhance, and support COBOL-based applications on IBM Mainframe systems.
• Analyze BRD and FSD and translate requirements into technical specs.
• Code, unit test, debug, and document changes.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot JCL for batch processing and job execution.
• Support batch processing and online transaction applications.
• Maintain and optimize applications using VSAM and IDMS.
• Analyze and resolve production issues within agreed timelines.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Participate in SIT, UAT, deployment, and production releases.
• Provide ongoing production support and troubleshoot critical incidents.

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Mainframe Developer to join the team supporting and enhancing enterprise applications within the banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and IBM Mainframe/z/OS environments, along with proven experience in application development, maintenance, troubleshooting, and production support. Candidates with banking domain experience, particularly Cards experience, will be strongly preferred.

Key responsibilities

Develop, maintain, enhance, and support COBOL-based applications on IBM Mainframe systems.

Analyze Business Requirements Documents (BRD) and Functional Specification Documents (FSD) and translate business requirements into technical specifications.

Perform application coding, unit testing, debugging, and technical documentation.

Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot JCL for batch processing and job execution.

Support batch processing and online transaction applications.

Maintain and optimize applications using VSAM and IDMS.

Analyze and resolve application and production issues within agreed timelines.

Perform root-cause analysis and implement appropriate corrective and preventive solutions.

Participate in SIT, UAT, deployment, and production release activities.

Provide ongoing production support and troubleshoot critical application incidents.

About you

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5+ years of relevant hands-on Mainframe Development experience.

Strong practical experience with COBOL and JCL.

Experience with VSAM is required.

Application debugging and troubleshooting.

IDMS and production support experience will be an added advantage.

Experience working with legacy mainframe systems.

Banking / Cards Domain Experience preferred.
