Job summary

Sodexo Malaysia is seeking a capable Cashier/Catering Assistant to support daily operations in our large-scale food service environment. You will handle cash transactions, operate POS systems, and assist with food prep and service, while upholding HACCP standards.

The role requires 1–2 years in a similar setting, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced distribution center. Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Cashier and/or Catering Assistant in a large-scale food service or distribution setting.
• Accurate cash handling, float management, and daily takings reconciliation.
• Experience operating POS systems and quickly adapting to new software/hardware.
• Strong knowledge of Food Safety and Hygiene standards (HACCP).
• Assist with catering operations, food prep, buffets, and maintaining clean service areas.
• Excellent communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia with customers and staff.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weight.
• SPM or equivalent qualification is required.

Responsibilities

• Process customer transactions using POS accurately and record sales.
• Prepare and serve food/beverages for catering events and daily operations.
• Maintain clean work areas, dining spaces, and kitchen stations per hygiene rules.
• Set up/break down catering stations for events and ensure timely service (up to 500 guests).
• Monitor stock levels, replenish supplies, and report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Interact with customers professionally, answer questions about menus and pricing.

Proven experience as a Cashier and/or Catering Assistant, with a minimum of 1-2 years in a similar role, preferably within a large-scale food service or distribution environment.

Proficiency in handling cash transactions accurately and efficiently, including managing float, processing payments (cash, card, etc.), and reconciling daily takings.

Experience operating Point of Sale (POS) systems, demonstrating the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and hardware.

Strong understanding and adherence to Food Safety and Hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP principles), ensuring all food handling and preparation activities meet regulatory requirements.

Ability to assist with catering operations, which may include food preparation, serving, setting up buffets, and maintaining cleanliness of service areas.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weight, and perform tasks in a fast-paced distribution center environment.

• Prepare and serve a variety of food and beverage items according to established recipes and quality standards for catering events and daily operations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including dining areas, service counters, and kitchen stations, adhering to strict food safety and hygiene protocols.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down catering stations for events, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery to a large customer base (up to 500 people).
• Stock and replenish food and beverage supplies, monitor inventory levels, and report any shortages or discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering questions about menu items, ingredients, and pricing, and resolving any customer concerns promptly.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to food safety, cash handling, and customer service, to ensure a safe and positive dining experience.
