Job summary

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital in Penang is seeking a healthcare assistant to provide basic nursing care and support the nursing team. You will participate in ward rounds, prepare beds and meals, and help maintain a comfortable patient environment.

Responsibilities include assisting staff during procedures, ensuring clean facilities, and attending service meetings. A Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia is preferred and opportunities exist within a regional healthcare provider.

Qualifications

• Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia required or preferred.
• Healthcare Assistant certification would be a priority.

• Assist trained staff in nursing care, patient comfort, safety, hygiene, admissions, transfers, discharges, IV lines and dressings.
• Attend meetings held by the service.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

1.Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.

2.Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.

3.Obtain ward report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.

4.Daily routine:

• Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families.
• Prepares and tidies beds, reclining chairs before arrival of patient’s and linens, and as needed.
• Provides drinks for patients and collects cups and meal trays after use.
• Keeps the patients feeling comfortable and cheerful by giving them blankets if they are cold, positioning them, and switching on the TV or radio.
• Keeps the unit area, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy.
• Disinfects beds and equipment, dialysis machines, reclining chairs, and cardiac tables after use.
• Answer phone calls and relay messages.
• Attendants to patients call the bell promptly.
• Escort and wheel patients back to their cars after dialysis.
• Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results
• Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
• Send out portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs.

5.Assists the trained staff in various aspects:

• Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, intravenous lines, removing of cannula or AVF needle and dressing, etc.
• Priming of the dialysis circuit before treatment and terminating the circuit during the completion of treatment.
• Wash and rinse the dialyzer after and before treatment if needed.
• Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly.
• Records the daily charges for the items used in the unit and updates the patients’ charges accordingly.
• Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient if needed.
• Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics.
• Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in theabsence of trained nurses

6.Attend meetings held by the service.

REQUIREMENT

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority.
