Job summary

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to provide basic nursing care and support across ward operations. You will assist doctors and nurses, register patients on arrival, and help with admissions, examinations, and procedures.

The role also involves stock management, patient transport, and ensuring clean, safe care environments. Experience with patient care, strong communication, and ability to follow hospital procedures is required.

Qualifications

• SPM certification preferred for healthcare assistants.
• Ability to assist doctors during examinations and procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and manage stock levels in ward and stores.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care aligned with the hospital’s vision and objectives.
• Notify nursing leaders of situations impacting quality of care.

Job description

• 1. Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
• 2. Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
• 3. Obtain unit report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
• 4. Daily routine: Receive and register patients upon their arrival and assist patients accordingly
  • Assist doctors in completing patient admission forms, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and providing essential assistance during examinations and medical procedures for optimal care and treatment outcomes.
  • Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients' needs and communicate with them and their families.
  • Prepares and tidies patients' beds and linens as needed.
  • Disinfects beds, furniture and equipment and organizes after utilizing them.
  • Keeps the area, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy.
  • Answer phone calls and relay messages.
  • Attendants to patients call the bell promptly.
  • Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests.
  • Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results.
  • Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
  • Ensure oxygen tanks continuous supply for emergency needs.
  • Guide patients and their families to the cashier for payment processing after receiving medical services.
• 5. Assists the trained staff in various aspects: Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc. Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly. Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients' charges accordingly. Serves meals, prepare drinks for patients if needed, and collects trays. Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient. Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics. Schedule and organise patient appointments for basic medical treatments such as dressing changes, nasogastric tube replacements, catheter changes, and glucose tests. Arrange and keep patient records in an organized and accessible manner. Transporting patients for handover and documents to the ward staff, as well as operating the theatre. Verifying and organizing on-call rosters for doctors, nurses, OTs, X-rays, laboratory personnel, and drivers, including ensuring the on-call board is up to date. Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses.
• 6. Attend meetings held by the service.
