Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital is seeking a compassionate nurse aide to provide basic nursing care in line with hospital standards. You will support clinical staff, monitor patients, and ensure a safe, comfortable environment for every patient.

Responsibilities include assisting with patient admissions, preparing rounds with nurses, stocking supplies, maintaining ward cleanliness, and recording daily charges as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
  • Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
  • Obtain unit report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
  • Receive and register patients upon their arrival and assist patients accordingly.
  • Assist doctors in completing patient admission forms, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and providing essential assistance during examinations and medical procedures for optimal care and treatment outcomes.
  • Conduct regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families.
  • Prepare and tidy patients’ beds and linens as needed.
  • Disinfect beds, furniture and equipment and organize after utilizing them.
  • Keep the area, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy.
  • Answer phone calls and relay messages.
  • Attend to patients’ call bell promptly.
  • Escort patients to other services for diagnostic tests.
  • Dispatch specimens to the laboratory and collect results.
  • Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
  • Ensure oxygen tanks continuous supply for emergency needs.
  • Guide patients and their families to the cashier for payment processing after receiving medical services.
  • Assist the trained staff in various aspects: patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc.
  • Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly.
  • Record the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients’ charges accordingly.
  • Serve meals, prepare drinks for patients if needed, and collect trays.
  • Maintain the record of intake and output chart for each patient.
  • Lift, turn, and position patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics.
  • Schedule and organise patient appointments for basic medical treatments such as dressing changes, nasogastric tube replacements, catheter changes, and glucose tests.
  • Arrange and keep patient records in an organized and accessible manner.
  • Transporting patients for handover and documents to the ward staff, as well as operating the theatre.
  • Verifying and organizing on-call rosters for doctors, nurses, OTs, X-rays, laboratory personnel, and drivers, including ensuring the on-call board is up to date.
  • Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses
  • Attend meetings held by the service.
  • Actively participates in the health education of patients and their families in the ward as well as unit meetings, dialogue sessions, and hospital activities.

Adhere to the hospital’s policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

Assist the trained staff in managing the proper storage, condition, and availability of biomedical equipment in the unit, maintaining a sufficient supply of ward stock, and maintaining accurate records for equipment, medical supplies, and consumable item specimen collections.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
  • Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, BFHI and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education
  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
  • Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority.
Knowledge and Experiences
  • Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage
Special skills required
  • Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia
