GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established standards, work collaboratively with team members, and report any incidents or issues to relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of high‑quality patient care.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

• 1. Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
• 2. Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
• 3. Obtain ward report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
• 4. Daily routine:
  • Conduct regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families.
  • Prepare and tidy patients’ beds and linens as needed and organize patients’ belongings as well as furniture.
  • Disinfect beds, furniture, and equipment after use.
  • Keep the ward, store, fridge, and its facilities clean and tidy.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Answer phone calls and relay messages.
  • Respond to patient call bells promptly.
  • Assist nurses in transporting patients to and from the operating theatre.
  • Escort patients to other services for diagnostic tests and from the ward to other areas upon discharge.
  • Dispatch specimens to the laboratory and collect results.
  • Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as needed to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
  • Send portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs.
• 5. Assist the trained staff in various aspects:
  • Perform nursing care such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect the trolley and instruments after use and store them properly.
  • Record the daily charges for items used in the ward and update patients’ charges accordingly.
  • Maintain the record of intake and output chart for each patient.
  • Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely.
  • Accompany the consultant in performing procedures and rounds when trained nurses are absent.
• 6. Attend meetings held by the service.

HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT

• 1. Proactive in our own learning and development, and to meet the minimum requirement of 20 hours of continuing education per year.
• 2. Involve orienting new staff members to the ward routines.
• 3. Maintain a record of personal leave and training attendance.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURE

Adhere to the hospital's policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

Assist the trained staff in managing the proper storage, condition, and availability of biomedical equipment in the unit, maintaining a sufficient supply of ward stock, and maintaining accurate records for equipment, medical supplies, and consumable item specimen collections.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES

• 1. Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, BFHI and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures.
• 3. Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures.

JOB REQUIREMENT

• Education: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority.
• Knowledge and Experiences: Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage.
• Special skills required: Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Personal attributes: Have interpersonal and communication skills. Caring, honest, and responsible worker. Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shifts and weekends, public holidays and any time called during an emergency.
