Job summary

Bina Initiatives Sdn Bhd in Penang seeks a seasoned BIM Manager to own BIM delivery for a railway project, guiding digital engineering from detailed design through construction handover and coordinating with client and PMC.

This senior, on-site role demands leadership of multi-discipline teams, enforcing ISO 19650, BIM standards, and BEP adherence, plus governance of subcontractors and BIM audits. Willing to be stationed full-time in Penang for the project duration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline (postgraduate an advantage)
• BIM-related professional certification preferred (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional, RICS BIM)
• Strong command of English and Bahasa Malaysia for reporting and client correspondence

Responsibilities

• Own BIM delivery for a railway project from detailed design to handover
• Lead, mentor, and performance-manage BIM Coordinators, Modellers, and subcontractor BIM reps
• Govern BIM compliance across all subcontractors (civil, structural, track, OCS, signalling, E&M, and MEP)
• Chair BIM coordination meetings and resolve multi-discipline clashes at a managerial level
• Liaise with client, PMC, and regulatory bodies on BIM matters; escalate NCRs when needed
• Establish and enforce Model Quality Control (MQC) procedures and BIM audit protocols

Job description

An extraordinary infrastructure milestone is taking shape in Penang — and we need an exceptional leader to drive it. We are seeking a seasoned BIM Manager to take full ownership of BIM delivery for Railway Project, leading our digital engineering efforts from detailed design through to construction handover.

This is a senior, client-facing leadership role. You will set the standard, manage the team, and hold accountability for BIM quality across all disciplines and subcontractors on site.

Responsibilities

Minimum 12 years of BIM experience, with at least 8 years in construction delivery

Proven experience managing BIM on railway, transit, or complex rail systems projects is a strong advantage

Demonstrated track record leading multi-disciplinary BIM teams on large-scale infrastructure projects

Willing to be stationed full-time in Penang for the project duration

Leadership & Management

Strong leadership character — able to set direction, make decisions, and command accountability

Lead, mentor, and performance-manage a team of BIM Coordinators, Modellers, and subcontractor BIM representatives

Govern BIM compliance across all subcontractors — civil, structural, track, OCS, signalling, E&M, and MEP

Chair BIM coordination meetings and resolve multi-discipline clashes at a managerial level

Liaise directly with the client, project management consultant (PMC), and regulatory bodies on all BIM matters

Escalate, arbitrate, and resolve BIM non-conformances (NCRs) across the supply chain

Technical Requirements

Proficient in Autodesk Revit and Navisworks Manage — capable of guiding and reviewing team output

Proficient in CDE / Autodesk Forma Design Collaboration — setup, governance, access control, monitoring & troubleshooting

Capable of creating, updating, and monitoring a project-level BIM Execution Plan (BEP) aligned to EIR

Proficient in 4D Construction Simulation — able to review, approve, and present schedule-linked models

Deep knowledge of ISO 19650 (Parts 1 & 2) and Malaysian BIM standards (CIDB, JKR, MRT/LRT BIM requirements)

Experience governing multi-discipline coordination — Civil, Structural, Track, OCS, Signalling, SCADA, E&M

Proficient in LOD 300–500 delivery strategy and asset information model (AIM) handover planning

Experienced with IFC/Open BIM, COBie, and data handover to infrastructure asset operators

Familiar with point cloud, survey data, and GIS integration into the federated BIM model

Able to establish and enforce Model Quality Control (MQC) procedures and BIM audit protocols

Subcontractor BIM Governance

Develop and issue BIM requirements to all subcontractors via sub-BEPs and Model Production & Delivery Tables (MPDT)

Review and approve subcontractor BIM Execution Plans before mobilisation

Conduct regular BIM audits on subcontractor model submissions

Ensure subcontractor models are federated, coordinated, and clash-free prior to RFI/IFC issuance

Hold subcontractors accountable to CDE workflows, naming conventions, and submission schedules

Qualification
