Job summary

Wahed Invest in Kuala Lumpur is recruiting a senior backend engineer to build scalable, secure backend systems for its Islamic investment platform on a hybrid basis.

You will work with product and engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain microservices using Python or Golang, write unit-tested code, and optimize data architectures with SQL and NoSQL databases.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial backend development experience
• Proficiency in Python and/or Golang for server-side development
• Ability to write unit-tested, maintainable code
• Solid expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases (Elasticsearch and Cassandra preferred)
• Comfort working in Linux environments and with AWS cloud services
• Product-focused mindset and strong cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

Role Overview

You will be responsible for building and maintaining the backend systems that power Wahed's Islamic investment platform. This is a core engineering role focused on developing scalable, secure, and high-performance systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend microservices and data systems using Python or Golang
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering colleagues to design and implement backend solutions
• Identify and resolve technical defects promptly while managing technical debt
• Enhance and optimize system architecture for improved robustness, security, and performance
• Integrate external financial platforms and APIs into the platform infrastructure
• Expand automated testing coverage across the codebase to ensure code reliability

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of commercial backend software development experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or Golang for server-side development
• Proven ability to write unit-tested, maintainable code
• Solid expertise in both SQL and NoSQL databases (experience with Elasticsearch and Cassandra preferred)
• Comfort working in Linux environments
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud platform services
• Product-focused mindset and strong cross-functional collaboration skills
• Pragmatic approach to engineering trade-offs and openness to learning new technologies
