Automation Software Engineer (C#) – Vision & Motion Control

Job summary

GTS Consulting in Penang, Malaysia, seeks a Software Engineer C# to contribute to industrial automation projects across the APAC region with up to 80% travel.

You will develop software in C#, integrate with PLCs, robots, and vision systems, design control logic, and support commissioning and training.

The role requires 3+ years in automation, strong C# skills, and experience with machine vision packages. On-site collaboration and multi-axis motion control work are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field
• 3+ years of software development experience in industrial automation
• Proficient with motion control cards and systems such as Googol Tech, Leadshine, SoftServo WMX
• High proficiency in C#
• Experience with at least one machine vision package (VisionPro, VisionMaster, Halcon, or OpenCV)
• Experience in independently developing motion control systems for equipment with 5+ axes

Responsibilities

• Software Development & Logic Design
• Communicate with Project Managers, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers to understand and analyze software functional requirements and control logic
• Develop applications using C# and other relevant languages
• Design and implement functions such as equipment control logic, machine vision processing, data acquisition, and monitoring
• Implement complex algorithms for motion control, sequential control, and process control, as well as basic algorithms for visual positioning and visual inspection
• System Integration & Commissioning
• Develop communication interfaces between software and various industrial devices (e.g., PLCs, robots, instruments/meters, vision systems)
• Perform equipment software debugging and commissioning
• Conduct integration testing between equipment software and the customer's MES
• Train customer equipment operators and maintenance personnel
• Software Quality Assurance
• Continuously optimize software performance, response speed, and resource utilization based on commissioning results and field feedback
• Collaboration & Documentation
• Write technical documentation, including design documents, interface documents, user manuals, etc.
• Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and after-sales engineers to troubleshoot and solve system-level issues
• Provide remote or on-site technical support to quickly locate and resolve software related problems
